Default Velociped Salon Ride Reports: June 13rd to June 19th: Last Spring Rides

Went for a recovery ride in the afternoon and found that the Boa closure on my left shoe fail. LBS is on my way and I stop and ask for a replacement, but the owner had taken them home to repair his shoes. Rode 24 km instead of the planned 50.

    Out:

    39x19 in the drops into a 20mph headwind = 12mph.

    Back:

53x14 in the drops plus tailwind plus double espresso = Peter Sagan

We get a lot of rides like that around here. I once did it in reverse, but by accident. 40 miles of feeling like I'd never been so fit followed by 40 miles home thinking that I'd never make it.

    Well,
My riding looks like this now that i broke my hand. The good news is the Penguins won the Stanley Cup, so riding the Penguins colored bike was a good fan move.
And holy crap, if one has to ride indoors, the smart trainer with Zwift is the way to do it. talk about a bit of indoor cycling crack. Its still new but i can't get enough. Hard to put in more than an hour consecutive, but i often do it twice.

I have a fairly strict "headwind out, tailwind back" philosophy. The mental challenge of a headwind all the way home on a longer ride just about makes you cry in frustration. That's especially true riding solo.

85k on the good old Crumpton. It's a great bike.

That rear Veloflex is DEAD. It's like this all over. Weird as I did not mention it before today's ride.....

FGM (Full Gravel Monday) Downtown Augusta out to Phinzy Swamp and then a short ways up the canal and back. Heat index of 100*F.

Got off to a good start.

    Swamp. Saw a couple gators.

Sunset was on point later in the ride.

    Locals.

Still rehabbing my knee, so I went for an easy ride along the Minnesota River with Vasa.

We both came home a mess.

I found my sun sleeves the other day so I figured I'd wear 'em because it was pretty sunny. That guaranteed that I would get rained on.

    Started out great

but for some reason the rain really took it out of me. Even though it never really poured.

Had a nice sunny ride through the city today sporting the Sachs kit...

Mostly through the waterfront and park system...

Followed by this guy just blatantly pulling out without giving a dang...with flammable cargo on the bed! LOL!

    Commute home.

Found Donald Trump State Park, a bit of a sore subject around here. Might have to come back.

    Saw this, too.

Rode 24 last evening, did 36 this afternoon to even up at 60 for the week. I was pushing a good wind all the way out, small ring, 15-16 mph, got about a mile from the turnaround, looked at the flag pole at the power plant and the flag was whipping in the wind. Made it all the way out, nothing to do but ride the sweet wind back. Headed past the flag on the way back, hanging limp, the wind was gone. Dammit.

I headed out to be a rabbit for the group but I only saw a few riders as I was headed in. I guess about 7 miles in someone touched wheels and they had a big pileup and a few riders had to get picked up. And they wonder why I'm happier being the rabbit.

A wild fire broke out yesterday afternoon not far from home. Took a lot of efforts, 200 people and 7 canadair airplanes to put it out after 6 hours or so. The burning smell sucks this morning. I went out on a MTB patrol to check it out.

Nate lead the Tues ride from the shop. Only four of us showed up due to the threatening thunderstorms. We did a short ride to make it back before the rain, even included a little dirt/singletrack at the very end.

Not sure if this is a new frame for Nate or just a respray (think it's a respray), but it looks good.

I surprisingly managed to get out for 90 solid minutes of riding this morning. Took the Zanconato, which is still wearing my Cosmic Carbone SLRs and did a few hard efforts. That bike sure likes to go hard. The photo blurriness reflects my current state of sleep deprivation and is how the world actually looks to me right now.
