Agree. Would change the title for the people that want to see the replay though.

I found that race very disappointing on many levels (for a National Championship event) atmo.

Hard for anyone racing in Europe to be there I would think.

I couldn't imagine any American on the European program coming back for this event atmo. Even the backdrop looked like a neighborhood race at best, not to mention the crowds. To my eye it appeared quite third-class for a pro affair, particularly a Stars & Stripes one.

Hard for any American racing in Europe to give a damn about crit nationals. Not that Eric's win isn't a big one for him and the team. But crit racing isn't very euro and American riders that are living in Europe aren't well suited to that kind of racing. Having them come over for the one day event would only fill out the field. Pro road nationals is another story though.

I've hardly ever watched Pro Crit Nats. I didn't even know it was happening until yesterday. But any time I get to see Marcotte handle the Blue Train, I'm impressed. I think his win at Cry Baby Hill in 2012 was a little more impressive, but still...I love watching that guy race. Pro Nats, NRC, TXBRA...he's been fun to watch.

All negativity aside that was a Strong move by Marcotte. On a more personal note it's nice to see hometown hero and two time U23 champ Ty Magner finish up in second. We're all proud.

As posted previous, what is the point of a 2 hour crit? I used to see 60 and 75 minutes + 5 laps and the like, but it seems that two hours means just turning a lot of laps for 90 minutes and then doing something. Sounds boring, the opposite of what crits are supposed to be.

    Good on Marcotte.

I have to agree with Richard on this; the venue/presentation was a real disappointment. These events are as much intended to draw crowds and business to the local establishments, as they are to determine a sporting event winner. The men's field was unusually small, the crowds similarly lacking, and the course lacked the visual appeal-the backside looked like a rundown section of town.

LoL I wish the crits around here had been 1 hour of racing. We had summer crits at sunset of about 90-100km, around 80 laps of garbage square circuit in town. Utterly boring.

Not to pile on, but 39 starters? I'm old and was never a pro, but here in the Midwest, road races get underway in late March and crit season does not start until late May. How many pros feel ready for a two hour crit in mid-April? USAC has it's head up it's tuchus, iMHO.

USAC can't do their job. The more ruminate and obsequious you are, the clearer that becomes. Or the grumps could focus on the positives like the very good camera work, uninterrupted live feed, and intimacy of the race letting spectators enjoy the racing and access to the racers.

Clearly the change was outrageous to some but welcomed by others. Dare to say it challenges a lot of people to understand how it is in a sport that sees form fluctuate so much year to year a progressive nation like ours can't let the best racer wear their jersey all year in the year they won it.

I'm not sure what this ^ means. But during my time around pinned-on numbers, I've never heard it said that wearing the jersey for 12 months after you earn it (as opposed to within the calendar year) was a bad thing atmo.

Continued focus on bad things aside. A number is still getting pinned to that jersey over the same length of time despite it occurring with greater frequency in the time following it being awarded. The best racer on the day still walks away with it too. What this ultimately conquers is dwindling attention spans being reminded what the most prestigious award on offer in this niche sport is. Not next year but right now while the fire is hot.

Weren't the road and crit pro champs better attended when they were consistently in Philly and Downer's Grove?
