Ben Wolfe. Like the look of him. Could be fun to see what he can do.

I love watching this race. It's cool seeing so many names that you recognize in the States.

I'm pulling for Lachlan Morton to finish on the podium.

His Mom is my high school classmate. It's been great to watch how jazzed she is as he gets better and better.

Plus he looks great on the bike. What a beast.

    Concussion

Stage 2- that was a nasty crash. When someone can't stand up that's a pretty solid clue that they are concussed. I forget the name of the Cannondale rider. Nasty crash. No way the neutral service guy should have helped him back on his bike. Twice.

There was a lot of shouting at the TV in our place.

I'm glad he didn't cause another crash (just). I'm glad he didn't ride straight inot the gutter (just). I'm glad the team made him get in the car (eventually).

Horrible all round, but very nearly much worse several times.

    Toms Skujins.

    From VeloNews:

And then, to the horror of viewers back home, Skujins climbed back onto his bicycle — members of the race’s neutral support team helped him back on — and then he continued riding down the hill.

To those of us watching on television, it was obvious that something was terribly wrong with Skujins. Communication was spotty along the road, as cell phone service cut in and out along the hulking mountain. One medical car was already ahead of Skujins, while the other was far behind. Skujins rolled along in no-man’s land for what felt like a painfully long period of time. As Cannondale manager Jonathan Vaughters explained in a video, he spent a frantic few minutes calling his communications director and other staffers, before getting team director Tom Southam on the phone to tell him to catch Skujins and remove him from the race.
So there was a communication dark spot evidently, and Vaughters was trying to get to Skujins or someone near Skujins and get him out of the race.

That was a cool stage. Couple of observations:

    1. Is it me or is the Tour of California not at the level it once was? Or are the sprints just lacking the extra oomph because Mark Cavendish is back in Quarata? Or is the Giro just that much cooler now than it was? Or am I just spoiled being off work and getting to watch two World Tour races a day?
    2. What gear does Ian Boswell have on his bike? The way he pedaled up the last climb must have had him in a 30-36 or something crazy to pull that 120 rpm cadence all the way up.
    3. Ian Boswell is making the most of his Sky leadership opportunity. He showed some heart in a couple of stages, even putting in a hopeless attack right at the end of today's. I like that guy. Hope he's back at the Farm Fork Fondo Hudson Valley this year so I can tell him in person.
    4. I'm glad it was Andrew Talansky who broke Cannondale's two year win drought. Another gutsy American.

Well, a Cannondale-RideArgyle rider won. Although the former is a world tour team and the later a pro continental team a Cannondale win really feels a bit like a Direct Energie win. Doesn't happen a lot in first tier races.

I've always thought the Tour of California was boring - all those wide roads.

That was a very well played finish on Mt. Baldy yesterday. A very cool climb and anyone who visits L.A. and is looking for a nice long climb, I highly recommend it.

Phinney not close to the ITT rider he was. Hope he will keep trying to come back from that terrible injury.

Probably why they don't make them and sell to the public.

What happened? Didn't get to see the full coverage and my quick google search didn't yield any results.

Lachlan Morton apparently broke the freehub on his TT bike when he was accelerating out of the start house. He went about 200' and got a backup bike from the team car. Later on he got his original bike back with what looked like a 50mm rear wheel instead of a disc. I don't know who makes the hubs for the disc wheels, but they might have some splainin to do.

Nice to see another track cycling world champion making a successful transition to professional time trialist.

It's funny that Rally now has more world tour wins than Cannondale has gotten in the past two seasons.
