someone did a fixie slide one night when you weren't looking.
"make the break"
I had a bent rear wheel on my Schwinn Traveler in 1954 and my tires wore that same way because the wheel would lock up at the same spot under heavy braking. When I "trued" the wheel with a pair of pliers it didn't get much better. I had never heard of a spoke wrench but I was only eleven.
Now that I think of it the last time I rode with this rim and tire combo I had to come to a screetching hault because of some car pulled out right in front of me. Can't believe the tire would peel away like that from one skid.
It is easier than you thing to skid kill a tire there really is precious little tread between the road and casing .
That will happen if it's thin enough. Clearly, 1000 miles is about what you can expect out of this tire.
At an event my club put on back in June, there was a moderately steep and pretty badly potholed 0.1 mi downhill just before the turn into the park where we had a rest stop. A guy slammed on his brakes on that downhill and locked his back wheel, and ina few meters of skidding not only wore the tread off, he ground a hole right through the tire, leaving a large oval hole.
Well, I guess having to replace a tire is better than hitting a car. My front tire is is fine and seem to have plenty of life.
bro put on some new conti's for the race. he slid a flat spot and a through hole-two different places- in one accident avoidance attempt. less than 20 miles on the tires.
i got the ruined one for using on my tubing blocks.
I've lost chunks like that without skidding. I did a fun climb that ended with a couple miles of gravel onto Pagemill rd and lost huge pieces by the time I got to the bottom. I had no Idea it had happend a long straight part of the road back. It felt like I had an octagon for a wheel.
Is that the front tire or rear?

Well, another good reason NOT to brake with the rear. Unfortunately my learning comes at your expense. I'm getting better at not really using my rear brake but it's just kind of instinctive. This image will help that.
sorry about that. maybe it was about time to change anyway?
