That classifieds ad for the old Cane Creek catalog got me thinking about some of my old literature.

I sent my Eastern Woods Research catalog to Steve Stickel a number of years ago when he was building in central PA or Virginia, can't remember.

Anyway, the Google reveals he is now in Western NC building some very EWR-esque 29ers.

They look good. Anyone have one?

I don't have one but know Steve fairly well from my time in Asheville. I have seen several (and riden one of) his SS 29ers. Nothing but positive comments.

Thanks for the link. I got to visit Steve's studio a few times when he was in Harrisonburg VA, above the Shenandoah Bike Shop, way back. He was always working on the coolest projects. I want a short wheelbase 29er of his some day. Oh yeah, and he has the best headbadge in the business.

Bringing this full circle, aren't the EWR 29ers now built by Bilenky?

i've always had a hard on for EWR. the shop I grew up working in had 3 or 4 including a few "sponsored" riders on them. when i worked in the biz, we took one of them and squished the chainstays to fit a 2.2-2.3 kenda tire. made that old 26er awesome all over again.

I think my favorite EWR is still the titanium one belonging to Ed (?) at a shop in PA. He'll bury that thing in his casket with him.

Pretty sure Steve is a regular contributor to the frame building forum over at MTBR. I believe he is "DFL".

Steve is in the process of re-locating to Jersey. He was thinking about coming out to Western MA instead (or I should wanted to come out to Western MA instead) but chose to live down there to be closer to his aging parents. He's a super nice guy, and he puts a LOT of effort and attention to detail into the bikes that he builds.
