Had tickets, and then had a fire drill at work. Bah.

Listened to the 1st on the radio and watched the rest. He's nuts. Much more of a pitcher than I'd expected- I don't know why I assumed he was just gonna be a fireballer, ala early Randy Johnson.

And to play the same old song, those announcers were really getting on my nerves until I turned the sound off. He's good, yes, but to start saying how fast Walter Johnson threw the ball - in 1905 - or comparing the kid to Bob Feller, Bob Gibson et al... insane.

To see actual movement on the ball at 100 miles an hour plus a pitching motion that appears to look exactly the same from one pitch to the next? Nuts.

Pirates or not, that kid is amazing. I've never been to a playoff game, but I can now imagine what it is like. The whole crowd stood up every time he had two strikes on a batter.

    14 k's is 14 k's. I don't care if it was against a triple-A team.

My wife, who has religiously watched Nats games for the past five years, is giddy about the attention the team is finally getting. A giddy wife is a good thing, so pitch on, brother Stras.
