Default Stage 4 at the TOC

TJ wins TT and takes the yellow. He put in a great effort.

Regardless of people ragging on TJ for not being good enough, we can't all be 3 week tour winners. I'd be pretty happy to have that motor.

    Alas he couldn't hold it.

Bernal put 1:38 into him today at Tahoe. Pitty, TJ could use the win and US cycling could use a champion (or at least a contender...)

That TJ has a fine engine is not in question. But he seems to have too many demons in his head to take full advantage of it...

Does this race have a future? It was on one of the TVs in the hotel restaurant last night. I was the only one with even a passing interest in it and even my interest was low. The crowds exist only at the finish line and the race seems contrived rather than naturally occurring drama.

I check the results of the Giro daily, but the ToC leaves me totally uninterested. What is the level of interest in California?

ToC will exist as long as the UCI and the sponsors put money into it.

Great ride by Brandon McNulty in the TT and on the mountain stage yesterday. Knickman will probably keep in the US next year, but after that -- Vaughters and EF? Super talent, have to see how his trajectory works out....

I was in Sacramento today to watch the final stage of the women's race. I had a nice chat with the Wiggle team and got a few autographs; Kasia's name was added to my Rabo-Liv jersey (it's been signed by most of the team) and a few others signed their pictures in my copy of "The Road Book" by Velofocus.

The men's race rolled out before the women started.

I had talked to these women earlier - the one with her tongue out is Julie Leth and she did that on purpose.

I'm pretty sure that the Astana rider in the center is the eventual stage winner Arlenis Sierra.

We'll have to see how he makes the jump to Europe in 2020, but McNulty is the bigger talent. Three years younger than Hart, and Knickman hasn't put him on the big boy program yet, whereas Sky had Hart riding a decent race load last year.

McNulty has a better motor (at the same age) than Teejay. If he finds the right team to bring him along, look out....

Does any race have a future?

ToC will stay around as long as the money does, which is exactly the same for every race on the calendar.
