Default So is it Mark, or is it Katie?

    Compton And Rabobank-Giant Part Ways | Cyclingnews.com

I get the fact that she wants to focus more on the discipline she is best at, CX- but doesn't Rabobank translate to Cyclocross in Dutch?? (just kidding)
It seems like she is a "loaner" or has a really heavy "backpack" (Mark)
    Thoughts?

Will she be on the Olympic MTB team? Olympics and a home cross worlds may have her head in a different place.

Sorry to say that she provides nothing but race results for a sponsor. Not marketable at all.
And as you mentioned, she comes with heavy baggage.

From a distance, she seems like a GIANT (see what I did there) PIA (not IPA which would be cool).

I love how she always gets "mysterious" leg cramps come Worlds time almost every year. She smokes everyone consistently, but cannot get the rainbow.

I am psyched she has a sponsor. She will be on the cover of every bike mag this fall. Smart move for Trek. So she needs five bikes, big whoop. Carbon trek bikes cost them what? $200, that is cheaper than all the shipping to and from Europe for KFC's schedule.

    good luck to her
    she is a great rider
i always find it disquieting when an athlete has different sponsors every year..year after year...
hope she finally wins it all.

    trek makes cross bikes?
    who knew?

i was really hoping to see her in CCB clours this season
but we know they (he) broke the cardinal rule to ride for you- "what do we get"
bad bad support system around her

i don't think they even knew.

hopefully she (he) feels comfortable with Trek

Secret desire for years to ride for trek?

That's funny. Reading his quotes in the article, it's easy to see why they churn through sponsors so quickly. Also, does Katie have a mouth? All I ever read are quotes from her puppet master.

it;s not that SHE needs 5 bikes but her handler also requires equal amount of support. it is a drain/strain on the relationship.

there is no question that this is true...

the question for me is " what does the team get from me giving you a jersey?...."

Too ironic that the article claims how she is the consummate professional athlete when just in the previous paragraph she talks about how crappy her former sponsor's equipment were.

I have some direct experience after briefly providing MTB support to her a few summers back when she didn't have a ride. I went in with eyes wide open, encouraging them to find a sponsor with deeper pockets. Part of the eye opening was a conversation with Mr. Compton where he went on at length trashing the previous year's wheel sponsor, who are friends and important business partners. When there was an opening in the tirade I simply asked, "what will you say about my brand next year?".

    It was enough said.

This comment alone is enough to make any current or potential sponsor cringe:

"It's been our secret desire for years to ride for Trek, and finally the opportunity arrived," said Mark Legg, Compton's manager, mechanic and husband. "Basically the connection came through Alex [Wassman] at SRAM. Katie came to a mutual agreement with Rabobank to exit out of her last year in the contract."

"secret desire"??? WTF is that? Thou shall not covet thy neighbor's wife.

Trek doesn't make cross bikes. They make something extremely similar, but with water bottle bosses.

it's hard to be a pro and not say something counter-productive about a sponsor at one time or another, especially when you are a highly exposed/interviewed one such as katie.

however, one must learn from mistakes and her comment there (if that quotes true source in fact her) is sophmoric at this point in her career in my opinion.

she sure is an amazing athlete though.

If shimano sucks so bad why did she pay for 3 groups out of her own pocket in 2008?
