    Default Salon Member Ride Reports......cameras?

Maybe others are interested as well, I'd like to know what camera or phone you use for the pictures submitted to Ride Reports. Just a simple mention in your ride report will do.

    thanks, Brian

Curious about this as well. The amateurish composition of my own photos makes me sheepish about posting them.

Just an iPhone 8+ for me mostly (although I rarely ever post in the member ride thread), but getting one of these is making me think about taking my Fuji X-T20 out more often:

Fujifilm XP waterproof. It can ride in a sweaty jersey pocket, it's been on a raft trip through the Grand Canyon and a Canoe trip through Labyrinth Canyon in Utah. It also bounced down an embankment outside Fredericksburg, TX.

The Fuji requires a bag: RuthWorks Ultralight Brevet Bar bag has been A+ excellent for this use, and the occasional rando.

iPhone is with me all the time. It’s gets the most work but when I want particularly nice images and want optical zoom and RAW I bring a CanonG7X Mark 2. Small enough for a pocket, well built and lots of control. WiFi is essential if you’re going to edit on the phone, tablet or computer.

It does not, however, handle an exploded banana....if the pulp gets inside the lens mechanism. Canon was marvelous about it and got me a refurb ( probably NOS unit) at a nice discount since they don’t repair these things, they just replace them if still warrantied or offer a trade for a fee.

Samsung Galaxy S9+ with liberal use of their photo editor software that comes with the phone.

Ricoh grd iv and sometimes Ricoh GX100. Image quality of both not much better than an good smartphone, if at all. But ease of use and control over the camera are so much better that they get shots I wont get with a phone.

There are different models, and even the original model is still available new, which I think gives a sense of how few equals there are in high image quality in that form factor.

Sony RX1 Buying Guide: Which High-End Compact Camera Is Right for You? | PCMag.com

The newest model still is the best in its class, this time with a longer zoom lens that usually reduces image quality simply because it is hard to 1.) get light down a longer snout and 2.) build a compact zoom lens with effective reach to 200mm and f4.0 brightest aperture.

The only downside is the price. They are expensive. But as I said, you still can buy earlier models and those will still have much better image quality in a small package than competing cameras in the same price range.

The gen 1 are extermely durable (kept my in my jersey pocket or a handlebar bar bag for years), take great pictures, and are very compact (easily fits into a jersey pocket). Thats about it but thats a lot.

The RX1 is too big for a jeresy pocket. That is why I think the rx100 is ideal. The RX1 creates a superior image compared to the RX100 but its quirky like the battery drains very fast in cold weather.
