Default Which saddle for an Aliante user?

Ok, my apologies if this has been covered but I'm in need of some collective wisdom here. Fizik, in their wisdom, has seen fit to redesign the Aliante - specifically the Kium-railed/carbon-bodied version I've been riding for years. And I can't seem to get along with the new R1-R5 versions as the shape and padding has changed so I need a new favorite saddle for myself and my good customers who listen to my fickle opinion to help them along.

Any suggestions from those who have liked the Aliante in the past? SMP? ProLogo? Fizik Kurve?

What? They re-designed the Aliante. Panic attack here.

I'm interested in this topic, as well. Is it true 'original' Aliante was designed in 1999? That would be a testament to its longevity, and also make this thread an inevitable necessity.

I believe a Specialized Romin is similar in shape. I ride Romins and have for 4 years now (mostly). I've tried an Aliante and while the shape was fine - the stack was too high for an ISP for me. Another option is a Selle San Marco Aspide, but I think that's a bit thinner.

I think the Aliante Versus (VS) is still the old shape, except with a central depression. They have newer Versus X line or VS-X that has a pretty major trough down the center of it, and I can't figure out what that design was supposed to improve. The edges of the trough are right under the ischium. Not great. But the standard Versus version of the Aliante looks to be same as it ever was.

Sometimes I think these saddle makers butcher a popular design just so everyone will have to buy one of their other saddles. The popularity of a particular saddle seems to trigger an attack of saddle maker anxiety. You would think it was the other way around.

I hate it when this happens. The Turbomatic II is, IMHO, the greatest saddle ever but it's heavy. Selle Italia quit making it. I hoarded them and have a lifetime's supply now. Then a few years ago they brought out a new version. It was fugly and not really the same thing so I didn't get any.

Why do they mess with success? Tons of people love the Fizik Aliante. I don't know why they'd change it but that's what saddle makers do. Our physiology doesn't change from year to year so I don't know why saddles need to constantly change.

    Rant over.

Why would they change the shape... Stupid. I know so many people riding on Aliante. BTW I did try a Specialized Romin and it did not work for me.

After 3 + years on Aliante I have found a smooth transition to a San Marco Regal. I know we're talking flat vs. curved but I transition back and forth seamlessly.
In search of something more modern, I have been eyeing the Kurve Bull as it seems to be more like an Aliante.

I have two white Aliante saddles (or rather, my mrs does)sitting in a drawer if anyone is interested.
They're the old style - the one you all know and love, both white, both the top of the range carbon railed version.
One has a few more miles on it than the other but both are very lightly used, ie. impossible to distinguish from new, therefore I don't want to let them go for peanuts.
Apologies for pitching stuff - but, if anybody wants them let me know.

Call it a Float or a Flight or something. But that is no Flite. I bought every 2.0 I could find from any site selling them. I'm still on the lookout and the reserves have dried up. It's a sad feeling. I feel everyone's pain with the Aliante...and I wish you all luck fighting each other for the last remaining saddles to be found.

To give some (partial) hope. I did find an alternative in the Prologo Nago Evo, but at the 3 hour mark I always find myself wishing I was on a Flite 2.0.

I'm 99% sure Prologo no longer makes the Scratch Pro and the new model equivalent is called the Scratch 2 - I know because I had a manufacturer's blemish on a Scratch Pro Nack that they agreed to exchange for a new saddle recently

Incidentally, I've heard of many people coming over from an Aliante to this particular saddle which is what I'm aiming to try; I currently ride an Aliante

Maybe it's a ploy so they can reintroduce it as the "Aliante Classic" 6 months from now.

I have found comfort in only one modern plastic saddle, Fizik Vesta. For some unknown reason, I decided to stock up on an additional Vesta two weeks ago. Maybe my intuition was right afterall.

However, I understand business side of things, Fizik will have better sales numbers with changes, between all the people trying new saddles and those stocking up on the old. Heck, there's not much loyalty to brand, as I see people trying similar shape models from different brands all the time instead of models within a brand. And loyal users like me buy that same saddle perhaps once every 3 years. (or at least in my case 4 years already and the old one is going strong) It's too bad, but quick profits on quick sales seems to pay better. Look at Campy now, they are not getting rich from loyal customers who are still riding 2007 parts (like me, I stick to Campy, but have not purchased for my road bike since 2007).

Fizik is still showing an old-skool version on the website. Not sure if it has been de-content-ed tho.

The original had that carbon fiber/kevlar underbody/shell. ... But they made several lesser versions over the years.
