Hey Folks,

I have some friends (helped with with Felix and Chapter) who have been working on a pretty rad handlebar bag for a while.

Their kickstarter went live today. It's worth a look IMO.

The hand space between the bar and bag is great. I also like that the top of the bag is even with the top of the bar.

Route Werks sounds German, make sense since they're building the Uber-Ortlieb bag.
Ruthworks, is working in the Franco-Frisco style.

So easy to keep separate.

Ely's Ruth Works atelier is in San Francisco. Where will Route Works be manufactured in what conditions? This matters to me.

I backed their Kickstarter, this is a great looking bag that seems so much nicer than the other options on the market. I hope that the mounting is secure over dirt / gravel roads and I'll be very happy!

I wondered about that when I saw the pics. I hope it stays up when fully loaded and hitting a few bumps on the road.

Ortlieb has the gold standard for handlebar mounts. That's my story.

Then that standard is not that high imho. I find their plastic release trigger fragile, especially on a commuting bike that may spend a lot of time outside, securing the cable that goes around the stem is annoying.

I really like the concept and I have one point of constructive criticism...most of the photos don’t have the bag mounted with drop bars and cables. I have a handlebar bag and I added a bar mount to extend the bag, so that I have hand space as Todd mentioned and to minimize cable interference. The mount is 63.5mm from the center of the 31.8mm bars to the center of the bar 25mm mount. The Route Werks mount spacing seems to be tight imho, when drop bars and cables are involved.

Intriguing. I have the very similarly sized Dill Pickle handlebar bag and love it for long rides. I know for a fact that that bag is stable (proven D2R2 and PBP), it is ~250g lighter due to the fabric/strap construction, and I really don't need this. However, I am indeed tempted. It looks very well designed. The m5 handlebar stubbies are a great idea as mounting headlights while using bar bags is a challenge. My main concern remains stability as this is supported only by the stem rather than six points (stem sides, brake hoods, fork) on the Dill Pickle.

Without interest in derailing this topic. Have you had failures in the mechanism? The reason I like that PITA cable is it creates very few stress risers and I've never had a clamp move. I'm using that clamp offroad.

no failure has in the clamp moving or falling from the handlebar. However failures of that red hook supporting the bag from the plastic becoming brittle on bike sitting in the sun for a long time or used by kids.

By the way we talked about ortlieb but I guess we are both talking about the klickfix system from Rixen&Paul that Ortlieb happen to have chosen for a number of their bags, right?
