    Default RIP Steve Hed

Steve Hed Passed Away | Steve Tilford

Bicycling has lost a good guy. Besides making great wheels Steve was always generous to the local cycling community and a large supporter of racing. Sad.

Crazy stuff - I unfortunately never got to meet him. Was he still involved in running the show?

That is really sad news. Dumb question, but was he old or known to be in poor health?

My wife lived in the apartment above Steve's bike shop back in the early 80's, and he got her started in a cycling clothing business that she ran for over a decade. He built an amazing business from nothing- just his own problem solving skills, innovative thinking, and his partnership with Annie. A sad, sad, day.

I met him at NAHBS two years ago, super cool dude. He was clearly proud of his products and eager to talk. 59 is way too young. Very sorry to hear it.

Wow, what a shock. Hoping (and sounding like) he passed relatively painlessly but still doing what he loved. Thanks for being part of our world...

I'm hard on wheels, especially lighter weight wheels, rarely do I get a set that I don't have to tweak quickly. I got a set of HED Bastognes 2days before I was supposed to ride TOMRV and I was little nervous about taking a set of unproven wheels on a ride like that. So I called HED to ask (gripe really cause they were late) and was transferred to "Steve" from quality control. We chatted a bit, I griped, he listened and after a while he very politely told me he would personally guarantee that these would be just fine for what I was going to do. When I asked him how he could do that he just said my name is on them. Very cool and I have yet to have to true that set of wheels. He'll be missed our thoughts will be with his family, way to young.
