    Appears he left us Friday.

Man, he had a good pull.

A real master builder, and a real loss.

Sad to hear this. I was just ogling his frames at NAHBS in Sacramento. His work was spectacular.

Sad to hear this. My visit to his shop remains a bright spot.

Reno is 100% broken today. I found out just before I started out on my run-race and I was just broken. Could barely run. Was just talking to him...

    Sigh....

Just gutted to hear this. Godspeed Roland.

Here's a photo from when we stopped by on our cross country move. What we'd planned to be a half hour stop turning into an entire afternoon of stories and generosity from Roland. Helluva framebuilder, but just a gem of a person too.

    Riposa in pace Roland.

I spent maybe 20 minutes talking to him at NAHBS this year. He was a character, he had me laughing hard a few times. I was seriously considering having him build a frame for me after our talk.

That's a shame. I interviewed him once, looking for a quote about the world's smallest bicycle, which he helped build (it was for a showman who performed at Circus Circus). It was a terrific, wide ranging conversation. Always wanted one of his bikes after that.

    no.....

this is awful. roland was so kind to me and despite his skills and history about as humble as they come. i loved being in an adjacent booth to him at NAHBS in Austin. I learned a lot just shooting the shit with him.

I have to say that Roland would have been one of my first choice builders if I was in need.
I have recommended his name to friends looking for a good bike.
I only heard praise for his work.
    His prices were fair.
    His work was top notch.
Nothing but good things to say at passing,
    nothing better.
I'm not up to that standard.
