Default Ride Reports: Sept 16 - Sept 22

Got out for an hour after work. Still having battery gremlins with the headlight that are frustrating and dangerous. New light on the way that should be here by Thursday.

Just spent some time up in Alaska. Rode my bike...the Jonathan Greene MTB. A great travel companion. Alaska = stunningly beautiful. Big mountains, expansive valleys and wild rivers.

Post #2 of the week and already an impossible act to follow. Guy, that looks like an awesome trip!

I got out this morning for a shakedown ride on the Spooky after doing some work to ready it for the mountains. I figured some sprint intervals in the rain and morning traffic were as good a way as any to test out the bike. The bike is ready. My legs, not so much.

Cleaned cobwebs off the Joe DePaemelaere cross that had been relaxing all summer in the garage. Local ride after work around reservoir area. Bike felt great

The Thursday ride was fast, wet and cold. But since I worked from home today I got out on a great ride while the sun was still shining.

The trails are perfect, except in the middle of nowhere I hit what can only be described as quick sand.

    Then sweet trails.

Went for a ride in the woods on Thursday. Nibbled on some mushrooms, took some pix, rode some more. I don't know what happened to my photos but I swear to god there were some flying dragons, giant spiders and Samurai dudes in the photos when I took them.

Started the day off with this from Mrs TR:

    photo (12).JPG

Fritatta with garden peppers, tomatos, and onions, local potatos, eggs and cheese. YUM.

Later, went out for a couple of hours of gravel fun. My oldest wanted to try out riding a "cross" bike for gravel. We were hitting some milder stuff so I just rode my road bike and he rode my training bike with cross tires on it, and Mrs TR rode her cross bike. Now it looks like I'm going to have to find a cross f/f to get him up and going.

Rode my cross/gravel bike with my road wheels and tires on it. It was great. Decided I don't need my road bike anymore. It's now for sale.

About 2.5 hours in the North Carolina mountains with velobran today. Highlights include some 20+% grades, a constant drizzle, unexpected gravel (a first for me), and an angry pit bull who bit my shoe. Pretty much a perfect day.

2.5 hours w/ Matt. He made me ride a few 20%'ers. I made him ride gravel. Can't wait for more.

Short window for ride time, so I got out shoved it in the big ring and drilled it for a while in the drops out in the wind. Surprisingly enough, I felt pretty good. Mind you, drilling it for me is recovery pace for the rest of you,but I got my hr up for a while. Time to go jump in he ocean and float for a bit.

No ride yesterday, we hiked on one of the most popular trails in the area. But since you can't get up here without a local ID it was empty. One bonus of the floods...

It wasn't bike riding, but it was with bike riders, so that counts.

More from North Carolina. Today included a 10 mile long gravel climb to the Blue Ridge Parkway followed by the most awesome of descents.

Certainly not Boulder rains, but the last ten miles home, and throughout a late afternoon soccer match, we had a decent amount of H2O saturate anything in it's way on Saturday. Oh well, at least it was in the 60's. I celebrated the first day of Fall today with my "morning after" bike, so called because the fenders and wider tires don't mind the water and debris that are on the road the day after a good rain.

    Good weekend:
    150 Miles
    9000 ft of elevation
2 new euro-lined ribbons of pavement
    1 - Shimano R310 vs. 0 - mangy mutt
75% of trucks were older than me
1pt 9 oz of Delirium Tremens

Its always disconcerting when vultures can sense you struggling on a climb...

Rode hard Friday to compensate for slower weekend riding upcoming but felt like a slug. Thought I was just malingering, so I pushed harder than normal but just couldn't seem to shed my sluggishness. Then got home and realized under the sweat I felt strangely chilled. Then the nose started running. Slept like crap. Woke up and felt like crap. Doped myself up to be able to meet friends for what turned into an all day brunch-a-thon. I could have really used the sleep. Now today, all my joints ache. My nose isn't running, but I can't hear out of my right ear and it feels like someone is driving a nail through my ear drum, so I suspect all the snot is in there now.

I have no lack of grim admiration for the body's ability to produce snot. Not looking forward to this winter.

All these healthy people photos here look great. Time for a nap.

I went down to Whitehall to watch the end of the Tour of Britain. Great crowds, great atmosphere and they really do love Wiggo and Cav.

But it also looks like Craig Gaulzetti successfully ran a guerilla marketing campaign with the Royal Academy of Arts. On the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square, he managed to have a very large blue rooster installed to lord of the Tour of Britian Finish in White Hall.
Now if he can just ask Banksy to spray paint Gaulzetti on the Plinth. He is golden.

Fighting a cold (probably from commuting in a couple downpours this week) so I took it easy this weekend.
An hour on the CX bike, pretending I'm getting ready for a cross season that in reality I'll be skipping this year.
Plus the standard trip to the dog beach- water is warmer than the air these days.

Ride report? This is a comment not a report. Legs were roasted from yesterday and was riding solo in search of espresso with a view...dig me? I pull into the local coffee shop and run into Myron who I've been pals with since forever and he's about to take off with two other masters riders. M. has always been generous with me and invited me to join if I could tolerate a super easy long ride. COULD I TOLERATE IT??? Fawk man I can count on one hand the number of guys left in this world who understand what it means to join others in a EASY ride and no nonsense. What a pleasure to be in the company of adults with accomplishments and that's my story.

The ride reports and pics are fantastic. Thank you :)
