Default Rapha how I used to love you

Rapha’s email has been added to my spam filter.

We had a good run, lots of hits. Rapha changed the game for the better. At the time it arrived their overpriced softshell was the nuts. My softshell is eight years old and going strong. There were some blatant misses like almost all the early fall apart jerseys. Rapha stood behind their good, they made things better.

    Things changed.

2018 Team Kit. I've never loved Rapha more.

PS - My jackets, vests, pro team bibs and jerseys, classic wool long sleeve jerseys and a handful of other objects are still at or near the top of my list for comfort and performance. Not everything fits me, but the stuff that does fits great.

Too Tall found my words for me. I have two Softshell jackets purchased from god-knows-when, and they remain fabulous. Tough, windproof, warm, and as stylish as possible considering the model they hang on. My Sportwool jerseys, eight-of-them, continue to be pressed into service in the summer months. They are the plain Jane ones with a tasteful colo(u)r contrast. An adequate juxtaposition of understatement and class. I also have a couple of Classic bibs. Then, when I went in for a big smooch, they ran away. I couldn't catch them. They became too fast, too agile, and too smug. I was crestfallen.

Probably with a computer. Just a guess, though. You gotta give them credit for keeping it fresh.

All of my recent purchases are products that last. Price is second. Longevity is first. For cycling stuff, nothing lasts longer than Assos stuff. I have a few Assos Rally jerseys that I'll wear for the next 30 years. You can't kill these things.

Plus, you can look this good.

I did just buy a classic wind jacket on sale for 50%. I really like it. other than that I do like their base layers for summer riding and the merino wool boxer briefs are the greatest article of clothing mass produced.

I actually sent to an application with cover letter etc, etc for a sales position at there SF store. They never called me.

    The cult of Rapha.

I no longer know what they are selling. 10,000 SKU's with twice a year liquidation sales. I interviewed to run the Chicago store and had an hour and a half SKYPE with a couple people in Jolly old. They kept changing the subject to events etc. when I would talk product and sales. When they mentioned they wanted to open 100 "clubhouses" in the US alone, I almost choked on my stroopwafel.

They just want you to join and sing the praises.

    It's bike clothing.

Darren, I know you too well. Assos may last 30 years, but you are like the Gigi Hadid of Vsalon and will be in the newest look as soon as it hits the runway.... nice to see Justin and Todd in the posse.

If the quality is better than Assos, I'll get it.

They lost me when they splashed big "Rapha" logos on stuff. That is just so tacky. They got confused. There is a difference between class and style.

It's been a few years since I've bought any Rapha gear but everything I've bought from them has been well made and very durable. I love their classic bibs and jerseys and I find their socks super comfortable. Their phone support is top notch and the people you talk to actually know about how sizing might differ between garments. Some of their things are stupid expensive though. I got a Rapha hat as a gift one Christmas and it's in that "too valuable to use" drawer. I'm not super pumped about their marketing but I don't care since Rapha fits me very well.

Rapha is one of the most low key logo'd products by comparison to the other Euro brands.

Sucrose-Sucrose Golly! My favorite jahvahaaah (or was it jva?) team member.

I like the looks of the classic rapha jackets. Endura seems to fit me better.

Boxers in the winter and briefs in the summer. I know that’s probably backwards. These are cotton boxers and not those jersey fabric briefs with 4” inseam. Don’t see the point to those. I used to wear Patagonia briefs but they changed their cut disasterously so now it is ex-officio.

    Back to the show.

I've always gone back to boxer because of that but they are getting scarcer compared to the ubiquitous boxer brief. am I missing something? ( I have always loved merino wool. hmm)
