I'd just be far happier if all of these chi chi cycling clothing companies up in the rarified air would just get away from this stupid trend of ultra-thick chamois that is like a damned diaper. They already have us layering and wearing four garments on the top where we used to wear two. Why not just replace the diaper chamois with something of a more usable thickness, let the older demographic layer up with a pair of Depends, and let the rest of us who are still continent have a decent chamois?

Hear, hear, I couldn't agree more. I have stated before, a chamois arms race commenced about 15 years ago, and has reached a point of creating over engineered products. It may be a response to mitigate the discomfort from using over engineered framesets and saddles. My all time favorite chamois was an ExteOndo product that was free from the Thomas' English muffin nooks and crannies treatment. It was just smooth, unadulterated chamois stretched over a thin pad. When I slipped into those for the first time, it was skin onto skin.

branding is too small, has to be BIGGER.

Ye olde Castelli X2 chamois is pretty thin - but yes, the Cytech trend towards "enormous" is old.

The thinner Assos S5 chamois is one of the reasons why I now wear them over Rapha. Rapha was just too thick and didn't fit ME correctly. If Assos combined the chamois and panels of the S5 with the S7 straps it would be the perfect bibs. For ME.

Just got an email this morning announcing new spring/summer stuff from Assos. Jerseys look pretty okay too, both men's and women's.

Step in the right direction, but their color choices and patterns, or lack thereof, still leave a bit to be desired.

Another good brand to take a look at is Velocio. The product is awesome and they've done a very good job with most of the designs.

My go to bibs are X2 pad stuff. Partly because of team kit but mostly good fit, comfortable pad and good price point. Also like the Castelli shoulder season wind proof jerseys. Tranparente Duo I think they are called.

I grabbed the Rapha Davis Phinney / 7-11 tribute jersey. Nice piece but doesn't fit well.

    Dumb questions:

    1. Does Assos sell direct?
    2. How's their return policy (if unused - just tried on for size)?
    3. How accurate is their sizing data?

I've found that often clothing that says it will fit my dimensions is incredibly tight and constricting and uncomfortable. I'm not grossly overweight but I'm not a Rapha model waif either. I like my clothing to be somewhat loose though not baggy.

    1. Only through the outlet store available on the web

    2. Take a look, I think you have to pay return shipping

    3. HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa...bicycle clothing? HaHaHaHaHaHaHa...wait, let me take a breath here...HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa....

Actually the shorts and bibs are pretty easy to fit from the Assos size chart but anything on the top half, forgettabouddit unless you can get them to give you the actual measurements of the jersey or jacket.

The secret is to weight under 155 pounds and you look good in anything.

If you're chubby, no clothing line will help.

I was last 155 lbs when I was racing, 20+ years ago. I doubt I’ll ever see 155 again but you never know.

I had a full 30 minutes of sleep that night. And around 10a in a headwind I started to really feel it.

    1. Assos now sells direct off of their US site which is a new thing for them.

    2. Never had to return anything, but service after a crash was top notch. Replaced my knickers and the zipper on my vest that were both a few months old. Went through my local shop who's a dealer but Assos was very helpful and responsive

    3. Once you know your size they tend to be very consistant across the range. The one difference being the new Mille stuff versus the "standard" Assos. You should be the same size in both, with the Mille being a bit more relaxed fit, but if you're on the border I would size up on the normal pieces. I'm a small across the range as I like my stuff race tight, but could also wear a medium in the traditional cut.
