    Hi, All,

Rapha outerwear (jackets) and underwear have been consistently excellent, but try them on-fit is not consistent at all. Their upmarket Giro shoes fit my feet and don't come to pieces/degrade like Giro's own-brand stuff. The epic marketing and constant email blast gets old, but they did move the industry in mostly a good direction, and a friend got good exposure from the Continental marketing campaign. The NYC shop served good espresso.

If Assos wants to be relevant, then they desperately need to fix their current bib straps (could be used in black sites to saw off nipples) and stop aiming to be the first choice of third-string superheroes with 1970's sci-fi fetishes. Even the Airjack851 Star-Trek tunic look era was better than their recent efforts. Basics, blocks, and black shorts please.

    Best Regards,

    Will

Holy shit, how on earth can I get back the 8 minutes of my life I've wasted reading this boring tripe. The talk of young folk being interested in a brand being the high note, a bit like being here. A bunch of old farts moaning about stuff not fitting them. Buy something else then.

I'm honestly shocked they haven't changed the bib design, at least on the mille.
My local gold level dealer says they constantly have complaints the front is cut way too low,
and the straps being far apart and unsupported cause serious muffin top spillage on people
in the real world. This is like 3 years in since the "game changer"? indeed.

I like the straps. Easiest to get on, by far.

Shouldn't need to be a mutually exclusive feature.

    Still off topic..

I like the intermediate ( t.equipe S7 something something thinner chamois) lower half fine. The straps harsh my mellow--the 1"+ elastic cuts the outer edges of my nipples. Perhaps a design feature designed to enforce base layer use? or just two fewer seams to sew vs their prior design, which used mesh and lycra binding and were really quite nice?

And they only offer "half shorts" in the Mille chamois.

In the wet, or in winter, I'm often in black. I just make sure my extremities are bright with orange Velotoze or winter booties, orange gloves and an orange lid. Oh, and lights.

I like Rapha stuff, but it's always been a fit challenge for me - M too tight, L too loose, usually. I'm put off by the fact that E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E here wears it, from the newbie on a bike that's less expensive than the kit he's wearing (yes, really) to the guy/gal with fully decked out kit and machine. You just can't escape it; and it inevitably comes with the stigma associated, which then makes it contentious.

I prefer to buy more unique stuff that I might never see on anyone else. Thankfully I'm not precious about bib pads etc.

Will, for extra nipple comfort try Q36.5. The straps are essentially seamless lingerie fabric:

They're not compressive or restrictive (you can stretch them to Mars) as the shorts are mainly held up by the woven fabric in the bottoms.

Catella are also pretty comfy, especially for traditional construction. The straps are where they should be and strike the fine balance between holding in the gut but not blocking access to the essentials. They're easy to pull down for "natural breaks."

That's my other Assos pet peeve, the summer weight sleeveless base layer is way too warm.
I saw photos of BMC riders in an open 'fishnet' style baselayer last year that Assos doesn't sell yet.
Again, it's been years since they replaced the far better older model sleeveless with one that doesn't work,
there is no excuse from a company that nearly wrote the book on layering.

    Catella is so sexy

4:05am Lille, France in the hotel where IMF Bosses use to have orgies. I had just finished shaving my legs and a conference call to Japan (I did both in the bathtub at the same time) in preparation for the Hell of the North sportive, Paris Roubiax sportive. Now wearing my Catella jersey I ate a very french breakfast by the desk light and cloth wallpaper.

And that was before they were made extra-sessy. Less tri(athlon), more filling.

Heading to the Yay Area in a a couple of weeks. I'll bring goodies!

Yeah, I think all the Rapha Brevet stuff is pretty well designed. It isn't just a different colorway of their other stuff.

And I like the lack of overt labels on most of their road jerseys.

They've experimented with short front designs for their jerseys to prevent fabric from bunching in the drops, and that has been successful in some of the designs and a bit awkward in others, particularly coupled with one of the aforementioned Assos bibs.

I think Assos bibshorts are great. Fit, durability, design.
