Default Pay attention, this rarely happens: New handlebar tape

Glad my original Serotta CIII did not sell. Tried halfheartedly last fall to move it. But I never pushed it and it sat in the basement all winter. I had one or two halfhearted inquiries but implied that I might build it back up. This bike doesn't quite fit, but it rides and handles too nicely to let it go.

The tape won't be this clean for long for I plan many, many miles on this one this summer. It was reanimated with some of the components from my Croll I brought back from Switzerland, which I did successfully sell (for less than I wanted, but I hope it serves it's new rider well, for he got a great, great deal).

Point is, folks have picked on me for dirty (well used....) tape. This is clean. Today.

First pic was from when I tried to sell. Looks kind of lonely. The second one was just before the test ride, which went perfectly. Of course. I had to do about 3 minor adjustments. It's a keeper. And it has clean tape for a day or two.

The third pic is of the clean bar tape and the aluminum Chorus shifters, which are, for the record, the best shifting Ergo shifters they ever made. I don't know why, but it must be the aluminum works better than the plastic.

BTW, this is not the same bike as a nearly identically-looking Colorado III I picked last summer. Both are race bikes extraordinaire. But this is the first one and an even better riding bike than the other one.

    Bike looks proper

All 22 lbs of it rides proper too. I only wish it were a bit lighter, but so be it. Can't have everything and this one cost me next to nothing. So it's proper.

I don't know what a wife is anymore because I'm always on planes somewhere. They claim they like that (what they really like is the illusion of money and vacation homes in Aspen and the Bahamas) but when they never see you they bolt for the stock broker.

Funny thing is they ride very similarly. Contact points are nearly identical. By design. This Serotta's got a higher and slightly longer (not by much though) top tube. And it's level. Otherwise they are pretty similar. Both ride great.

Gorgeous ride. Someday I'll own a nice steel bike with an alloy Campy 10 group with little regard to weight.

Just wrapped up my bars in it. Initial impressions=teh win. Forgive the housing lumps.

Microtex is perfect except that it is slippery so it is not perfect. Perfection is imperfection.

Nice. It's begging for a high polish stem and bar. Hey, I have another TurboMatic. PM me if your interesting, as e-Richie would say.

It is slippery if you wear the wrong gloves. They need to match.

I might actually have enough at the moment....

As for the stem and bars? I wasn't going for a silver look at all. Just worked out that way. The levers and rear derailleur and brakes are from 2001 or so, back when I didn't buy only carbon stuff....... Funny thing is that they actually feel more positive in the shifting than the carbon ones.

<3 the microtex. It is going to be my go-to tape. I agree it is slippery, but not for my gloved hands. Only if I am doing the invisible aero-bars does it matter much.

Gloves are a good idea, imo.
