Unfortunately, participation in FNL has been on the decline for a few years now. They must have enough business that FNL is unnecessary...something to ponder.

I think combination of holidays, etc. but also other formats becoming more popular (ie, Instagram) than the generic Internet. I see some of the usual suspects active on IG while FNL quiet. Folks are building.

The first pic in Zank's weekly portfolio, the 1973 Raleigh International copper-colored one, is really a road 38. It swallows a Compass Barlow Pass with aplomb. The brakeset is Shimano 650s. Mike had his way with that tubeset. It is so finely crafted, and manipulated to accommodate juicy, bloated, 38c tires, and a 57mm sidepull brakeset. There is a magician residing in Sutton, Massachusetts. Pics forthcoming.

I think that black-on-black frame in the classifieds right now is pretty rocking' too. I really tried to fit that frame, and Mike even kindly drew a mock up to show how it might work. But alas I am no Cinderella for that lovely slipper. Just an ugly stepsister. But I think that frame rocks, especially for a disc brake-fearing luddite like myself.

Do not fight the slipper! Resistance is futile!

I almost went for gusto and asked Mike to install canti bosses on my new Zank. The thought of yet larger tires with mudguard capability was attractive. In the end, my head was stuck in the 1950s. I have developed an unhealthy affinity for spunky little machines (well, large in my case) that are racy, but practical. I like having mudguards attached in the winter months (that's October through April in these parts), that can be disrobed in the warm months. A pair of summer wheels, and a pair of winter wheels, and enough puff to remain a moment ahead of the Grim Reaper is sufficient to confirm my existence.

The bosses on the black Zank are for direct mounting Paul Racer brakes. That would leave open the center bolt hole in the fork crown and in the seat-stay bridge for fender attachment. Put a set of Shamal C17's on here (that was my plan) with 32's plus the seasonal fender worship in the fall and eat your speedy summer riding too!

I only wish it fit me, but there are solutions to that.

I didn't know only a select few could start FNL threads. Mebbe that should change... I wouldn't say just anyone should be able to start an FNL thread, but certainly open it up to the guys who have been posting in the threads consistently

    Yes all 5 of them.

Really doesn't have a future unless you can interest people to post here rather than instagram etc.

Since this thread started there have been two FNLs. I don't think there's much else to discuss on the matter.
