    Default New England Bicycle Bloodline

    Hi everyone..

I thought I might share a project that I've been working on for a while...This project has been a long time in the making but I set out to chart the interconnections in the New England scene charting things back to the pioneering builders of the early 70′s. I had heaps of help along the way - too many to mention but Rody, Mike@ANT and Marty have been awesome help. It will always be work in progress so drop me some notes on additions or amends. Hope you enjoy.

    New York ≠ New England!

Nice work, though. I agree you should print some and sell 'em!

    Very cool.
I like plenty- you did some awesome work here and I like how you connect everything. The time line is really nice.

The only other maker I would add is Rhygin- small but influential builder during the first gilded age of frame building (early 90's).

New England is the fertile crescent of frame building in this county ATMO*

    Grazie for sharing mon ami.

Nice work, didn't Mike Zanconato work at Seven for a couple years? Seems like a link is needed. And +1 on Rhygin, here's some info.

It appears as though only three brands listed do not descend from International House,
Tanners Hill, Deptford, London SE. And so many tracing roots to East Haddam atmo!

DORNBOX got the shaft! I hear that cat started underneath Toby at Hot Tubes.... And as someone else pointed out, Zank did work at Seven. Nice art though. If I... um I mean, if DORNBOX was on it, I'd buy a print fo' sure!

nice artwork indeed. couple of clarifications:

    1. Sketchy has been building frames since before 2004 (which is when i met them). they may even date back to the late 90s.
    2. (speaking for Mike) Zank was building his own bikes before he came to work at Seven and there was no lug work being done at Seven so no link needed there.
    3. If you're going to include NY in New England, what about Vicious Cycles?

    Nice work!

On a revision, you must add Kualis by Yoshi Nishikawa as an offshoot of Seven.

I'll send you overthe edits you asked for in a wee bit.
The shred-related companies that aren't listed, they built lots of bikes.

Thanks for taking on such a cool project!

    NICE!!

I currently own a 1994 Chris Chance, a 2007 IF Crown Jewel and a 2010 Ellis; all steel frame and fork. I am needless to say, very pleased with my stable and it's lineage.

    on this note...
gary klein made his first aluminum frame when at mit.
it still sits in the mit museum...

he brought it into the shop i worked at at the time and we couldnt imagine why anyone would want something so ugly..
    was light though

Wow, thanks for all the positive words everyone. It's been a labour of love and I know it will keep growing..

Print might be in the pipeline - i've had lots of requests - just working out how doable it is.

Rhygin, DORNBOX, Vicious Cycles and Kualis should all get a mention I agree...

I figured although not New England NY builders deserved mentioning due to proximity as do others who aren't strictly speaking in New England.

This thing never stops, loving putting it together though so keep the commends coming... Fee free to drop it on your blogs to help it spread if you can ;)

Hazy memories of the 90s - didn't Grove Innovations beget Eastern Woods Research in some way, shape, or form?
