Default Mobile bike sales and repair businesses

On my commute to work today I saw a large Mercedes cargo van wearing the logo of a franchised mobile bike repair business (Velofix). When I checked their website, the business model seems pretty good. They come to your house from 6am (nice!) to 10pm and have reasonable prices ($80 CAD basic tune up). In addition, they partner with bike manufacturers so that online purchases can be shipped to them and they do the build (Canyon, Merckx. Brodie, Ritchey, Linus were the brands I recognized) and final delivery. Seems pretty convenient for those who don't want to get their hands greasy and/or buy their bikes online. I do all my wrenching so I'm not going to be using them, but this seems like a good response to the online world and the need to reduce costs. Without the need for retail space and frame inventory, I would think that a wrenching owner/operator could probably make a decent living out of this.

opinions from those within will vary drastically. and it likely depends on what franchise you decide to roll with.

I hadn't thought about franchise fees. The only other mobile bike repair business in Ottawa is much less slick. It looks to be a guy with a portable Park repair stand and a minivan. No bike sales based on his website.

My dad and I are friends with a guy who went out on his own, after years of working in shops. He did his own branding instead of buying a franchise. So far, so good.
