    Post Merlin Frame ID

    IMG-0258.jpg
    IMG-0261.jpg

    Hi everyone,
I picked up a Merlin ti frame the other day with no decals, aside from the "Tom Kellog geometry" sticker on the non ds chain stay.
I posted some photos of the BB stamp and head tube badge, there are also stamps on the top of the BB shell and drop outs.
The previous owner said something about it being a "works 6/4" frame, not the standard ti blend of 3/2.5

    Thanks!

The pantographed logo looks like the Works logo. My Extralight, roughly from the same year, has the classic logo.

I think there were some 3/2.5 Works models though. II don't know if they all were 6/4.

It will be mid-2000s. Have a 2005 Merlin with the engraved headtube as well. Since it has a works logo it should be 2006 when they came out. Did Merlin go under after 2007? Nothing on Archive.org

AFAIK 95xxx frames were made in 2006, so this 99564 was made not before then. The brand was sold to competitive cyclist in 2011, but ABG stopped selling new Merlins sometime in 2008 AFAIK.

The last catalog I found was 2006, which lists the Works CR as being 3/2.5 tubed.

Here's a pic of a Works 6/4 TR I had - wonderful bike - sold super cheap because the clearance was really tight for wider carbon rims - but that was foolish - I shoulda just rolled it w shallow tubs - one of the fastest and snappiest bikes I've ridden..

Note: that Moots fork plasti-dipp'd worked great as it had the right 40mm rake.. I thought it rode much better that the Real Designs fork that came with it (iirc).

Also looks good. I have a Reynold UL fork on my Extralight, which now I feel like dipping…

I've searched for a Reynolds UL fork in 1" for my Extralight but never found one...maybe they were never made for 1" steerers?

They were Ouzo Pros at 1": Reynolds Ouzo Pro Fork 7C 9x1mm 1" Steerer C | The Pro's Closet, but I guess they won't be easy to find nowdays.

I have Ouzo Pro's on both my Merlin Extralight's currently...not much to choose from for 1" these days...when these forks eventually go I'll just get some custom steel forks done.

Yeah this looks like my bike, I believe from looking at the catalog its a works TR 6/4 . Tire clearance looks about right, pretty tight with 25c gatorskins on HED Belgium rims

Does anyone have experience with the current incarnation of Merlin? Their site says they are handbuilt in the USA with a small team.
