    Default Massachusetts at NAHBS

Did MA outnumber OR? I don't know, but there were a lot of us there...

    ANT
    Geekhouse
    Iglehart
    IF
    Maietta
    Mooney
    Sachs
    Seven
    Sylvan
    Zanconato

I think Parlee, Hot Tubes, and Spooky were the only no-shows.

I think Peter Mooney was giving his lug seminar during the photo(s).

    Is MA the new OR?

I need to know this stuff so I can persuade the wife to move somewhere outside of this windy tropical hell hole (that's exaggerating a little).

Oregon was the new Massachusetts. Massachusetts is the new Massachusetts.

I think Massachusetts makes more bikes but Oregon has more builders. Next year we should have the "New England Pavilion" at (S)NAHBS.

I like the new slogan... Massachusetts, the new Massachusetts.

I'm starting to get a soft spot for this place (Mass). I may finally be over Rhode Island.

I just walked across town, felt the big fat snowflakes smack my face as the wind cut through my wool overcoat. I'll take that any day over 95 degrees and 95% humidity.

But to each his own, I suppose.

Sapa's bussiness is down a little these days, but last time I asked they were still doing about 4,000 frames a year or so.

They built a bunch of frames for us in 2009. None this year though, thank goodness. Turner sells quite a few bikes, and they are picking up some production from Titus occasionally at Sapa, but carbon and hydroforming are killing them (They closed their frame ano facility this spring.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mass and the Boston metro area doesn''t build more frames in 2013 than Oregon and Cali combined. There is certainly no other city in the country with so many people with so much experience in bicycle factories, or places with so many fabrication and engineering resources. As far as I can tell we are all weathering the changing marketplace and difficult economy damn well, and I know I'd love to double the number of bikes we build and sell every year until we can't build any more robots.

Yeah - I don't want extremes either. I grew up in Ohio, so I'm familiar with cold weather, dreariness of winter, and snow. I'd prefer something in the middle. Like west-central California weather. The NE culture and tradition is 1st class though.

Ohio? Me too! Boston is more temperate than Cleveland. It's more a lot of things than Cleveland...
