    Default Iconic Cycling Logos, Imagery

Please post anything that comes to mind - this is a loose, early brainstorm for a personal project.

By imagery in this case I don't mean photos; bonus if any content has a Spanish or Barcelona tie

I'll start below with two that I love:

The ONCE jersey design was clever. The four squares for the name (echoing the squares for filling in lottery numbers). The prominent infographic (figure with cane) that communicated the purpose/meaning of ONCE. The earlier versions (yellow ones and especially pink one) were very clean. The later versions were increasingly burdened with too many co-sponsor names.

Kelme was good because the vertically striped color bars were pleasing to the eye and easy to identify in the pack. The paw didn't really fit with cycling (more with football shoes).

The "bicing" logo is cool. It not only names/explains its own activity, but the alternating black & red lettering pinpoints location (i.e., BCN).

For non-Spanish cycling logos, Don Ferris' design for the Anvil Bikeworks logo was a risk that paid off. While anvils traditionally are associated with "heaviness" (not a desirable quality in a bike frame), the logo reverberates with other, more positive, connotations: tempered steel, old-school craft (blacksmithing), sparks.

    ANVILBIKESMITH-nobackgrd.png

And following the blacksmith/forge/anvil motif, a wordplay on Don's name emerges: Latin ferrum = containing iron (e.g., steel).

When accompanied by the Anvil tagline ("bikes built to hammer on"), the glowing logo approaches perfection.

    Not Spanish, but still:

I always associate Spanish cycling with Luis Ocana and Bic:

Here is one of the winning-est teams in cycling history sweeping the podium of the 1996 Paris Roubaix.

Is it just me or does that Mapei photo look like a scene from a bad musical??

I liked Cinelli's Winged C logo enough to borrow from it...

I saw this originally published in a magazine, was awed by pro cycling.
