Default I just lost one of my D2 custom bike shoes :( Now what?

This is a mild nightmare.. So I just started a new job and went out with my new coworkers after work last Friday, and when I got home, I only had one of my custom D2 MTB shoes. This really sucks. They are/were 5 years old and worked great. I use them every day for commuting, riding and grocery shopping etc. Since Don left D2 I'm wondering about the next shoes which I will have to buy.
Do I have D2 try and recreate the missing one I had? Buy just one, or a new pair? Have Don at his new company have a go? Is he in production yet? Should I try a different maker entirely? My D2's were good but I could have used more arch support to be honest. I have limited funds and dropping a grand+ on shoes wasn't in my budget alas. I realize Rocket's are a bit more. Just looking for some feedback.
    Thanks!

    That is a mega bummer-

I would pray heavily to the bike gods for the return of your b’shert. Seems wrong if the universe does not return it’s custom twin

I had a pair of D2s that I used for years, and thought they were great shoes, then the velcro died on them, and I called D2, they said they wouldn't fix them and that they were focused on only making new shoes. So I looked around, and bought a pair of custom bonts, which are fantastic, and about 1/3rd the weight of the D2s, and more comfortable. The way they are made is they are simply a model of your foot made out of carbon fiber, with very little padding, which sounds weird, but it's great.

If you have to have custom, like I do, my feet are huge, then I'd highly recommend bont.

I require orthotics... so, does Bont do those too? I worry about mixing orthotic makers and different brands, as some orthotics don't fit ready made shoes so well.

I suggest starting with stock Bont shoes and a custom insole.
Bonts work well with custom insoles and and have been a godsend for me- 3 foot surgeries, lots of stock shoes, and even custom D2 shoes- Nothing solved my whacky foot issues until Bont.

My feet have a weird shape too, they curve in causing big toe rub on every shoe. I tried Bonts once and they fit well except for this toe rub sadly.

Realizing that you said you had not budgeted for a new set of customs, this guy does awesome work. He can accommodate what you are looking for. Had a pair done 3 years ago and they have been fantastic.

For those who can wear stock shoes comfortably (which is the majority of people), custom shoes seem a bit ridiculous. But for those that need some help, once you go the custom shoe route from a good maker (like Riivo Custom Cycling Footwear | Riivo Custom Cycling Footwear) you will never look back.

What Brian said. With your foot issues I don't believe you'll be happy with anything less than full custom. RIIVO is highly skilled and I do have both road and mtn. from him.

That said, you might consider going to good old toe straps pedals until this is solved.

I'd just focus on finding the missing shoe at this point. Surely you lost it either at your workplace or in one of those places you spent time in after work no ?

Luck shoes might be an option. I have no idea if their "customisation" is as thorough and complete as D2 but it is way less expensive and it might be interesting to give them a call or email to know more about it, maybe combined with a custom orthodotic sole ?

I don't know if bont does orthotics, you could always email them to ask. Last I checked bont charged about 1000 dollars.

I called everywhere, and walked around the pubs we were at. IPA was involved. I think it fell out of my bag when getting into an UBER. The problem is that I went to California and didn't notice it was missing until five days later so it's probably in a dumpster someplace. I emailed D2 and DOn and I'll check out Riivo. I just some some junk on ebay so luckily I have some paypal $ to use.

Seems to me with a custom molded shoe, you wouldn't need the orthotics... if the show was made correctly.

this is a huge bummer but you cannot compromise your feet or a$$ on a bike. so make lemonade and consider it an opportunity to upgrade the five year old pair to your current needs and physiology. sounds like new choices available now as well. hopefully the replacement pair will be BETTER for you and this IPA fueled nuisance will fade in the rear view mirror

You could put the shoe you have on eBay and see who bites.

    Just being helpful :)

"5 years old, and worked great".
    I would question myself:
    What would Lionel do?

Lionel would have four more pairs as back up, but still order a new set to replace the lost one.

I did the unthinkable, and guess what? It was surprisingly fun and worked great on my 5 mile commute. Lots of power on such a big platform. I'll need something else in the rain however.

Ok Also, Why Riivo? how are they better than D2, or Rocket? I checked out the website and they look great, but they are about $500 more for what I require. Thanks!
