Default I was jsut chatting to my mother

and she said my new bike was the same colour as her first bike she got back in the 50s. She then recited a poem she had written about it. I asked her to send me the poen to show to you guys and she sent me this mail which I got a kick out of so I'm posting it here in the hope you do too.

    My Bicycle Poem
I wrote this when I was 10 or 11, it was my first bike and I didnít think I was going to get one as we were so poor, but my mum said if I did well in the South London Sports Competitions sheíd get me one. I came first in the high jump and first (with my team mates) in the relay race and when I got home from school one afternoon my bike was waiting for me. I think it was a Raleigh and it was dark red/maroon and had gold writing. I nearly got killed riding it as I swerved to avoid a car and fell off it in front of a bus in Great Dover Street but I was completely unharmed.

    I have a little bicycle
    It is red and gold
    It has some silver handlebars
    Which I must always hold

    It has an oily chain
    And the pedals donít remain
But I love my little bicycle
That squeaks and groans and strains

    That's a nice one. Thanks!
The qualities you are looking for in a leader include: Does the individual have the respect of the men? How do you get the respect of the men? By living with them, being a part of it, being able to understand what they are going through and not to separate yourself from them. You have to know your men. You have to gain their confidence. And the way to gain the confidence of anybody, whether itís in war or civilian life or whatever, you must be honest. Be honest, be fair and be consistent. You canít be honest and fair one day, and the next give your people the short end of the stick. Once you can achieve that, you will be a leader.

I love it. Thank you for sharing.

I just taught my youngest, 6 years old, how to ride without tng wheels this weekend. I didn't think he was ever going to do it. Now he wants to ride each night after dinner. Makes me feel 6 again. That's why I like bikes, and this place and people who share great stories and info.

Love the poem, but it's time to stop with the teasing and show us the purty bicycle!

I love it. Be fun to have it inscribed playfully on a bike ...
