Default How cold is too cold? Apparently, four degrees isn't.

This morning I took the back way in to work - the front way was stopped dead about 10 miles from where I needed to be and the first alternate route was taking all the people bailing out from the tail of the stoppage. I was driving in, idly musing to myself that the road was clear, even of ice, all the way past the edge of the pavement. One could put the lights on and ride in the morning.. but it's four degrees above zero... too cold... and then I went around the corner and there was some guy out and I really don't think he was a commuter. He was just out for a ride.

Depends on the length of the commute. Ten miles at 4*F is totally doable.

Saw much the same today, Sal the waiter commuting on his beater in downtown traffic, icy roads and a-holes in cars!

My commute is 7.5 miles, with the first 2 miles straight downhill.
If I survive those first 2 miles without frozen parts, it really doesn't seem to matter much what the temp is for the rest of the ride.
I can do it comfortably down to about -5F. Gets too painful after that.

I am in awe of you who would ride in single-digit weather. If it were 4 degrees in the daytime here, people would be committing suicide--if the cold hadn't already killed them the night before.

    Ahhhhhh....Florida.

It's been in the singles below 0 here in Mpls. It's fine for a 5-6 mile commute. Your muscles feel like they have been through a couple hour ride though. Keeps the head clear.
