    Default Highest tension SPD-SL pedal?

I was just doing some sprint efforts on the trainer. My left shoe pulled out of the cleat and my right leg swung the pedal around and slammed the pedal around into my shin. After cursing for a few minutes, I went ahead and tightened the pedal down as far as I could go. I'm surprised by how easy it is to clip out of the pedal at max tension.

Does anyone have any stats from Shimano indicating which SPD-SL pedal has the highest max tension setting? I couldn't find anything on Google.

Yes, I am using new cleats. This is a trainer-only bike, so I'm not worried about unclipping for a stop light.

i dont know if it specifically translates to higher release tension, but i have found, anecdotally - that dura ace pedals have a firmer "snap" than the ultegra or 105 versions of the road pedals. That said, i do have all three in rotation and have never pulled out of any of them, but i'm not much of a high power sprinter either.

I run 9100 DA pedals with the blue cleats and I have the tension as light as possible and I've never come close to pulling out of them.

I wonder what color cleats the OP is using also.

I've got 105, Ultegra, and DA SPD-SL pedals across four bikes. Release tension is set up mid-way on all of them. I run the yellow cleats and am a 170-ish pound "sprinter." I've never come close to pulling out of any of these pedals.

Also running blue cleats. The pedals are Ultegra. They're old enough to be metal, but young enough to have the wider platform. I believe that's the 6700 generation.

I blame the trainer. The natural rocking action that happens in that kind of effort is locked out and the excess movement has to go somewhere.

For spdsl go dura ace. Make sure your cleats are new

If you donít want to pull out, and donít wan to use toe straps over the top, look at the (spd albeit) shimano dxr pedal. Designed for World Cup bmx racing it is specifically designed to hold up to the forces (absurd snap wattage) that those athletes put out. It has a little brace to prevent you from pulling straight out

Shimano Dura pedals have the highest tension release. All SPD SL pedals have a range with some overlap. That said if you run DA at the max they are higher than Ult/105/550 ect. As mentioned above are your cleats new? Worn cleats effect exit as well as entry.

Today I was able to confirm that Dura Ace SPD-SLs crammed with sand and cleats with hunks of mud have the highest release tension. As in they won't release until you're on the verge of tipping over.

Been there! Once I did clip out and put a foot down in the mud I had to get a stick to scrape the mud out of my cleat before I could clip back in.

Watch the end of Milan San Remo 2020. Note that the rider who won spent very little time throwing their bike and body around in the horizontal plane. Strive to be the winning rider...

good thought, but after their effort to get away and stay away, I don't think they had the energy to get out of the saddle. That was a final kick at the end of 15 minute interval, not a field sprint .

Okay, try this TrainerRoad Sprinting 101 Video - I suck at sprinting, but I'm trying to learn:
