    When my friend Evan was dying of cancer, he used to read the newspaper and wonder aloud why the truly abhorrent people in the world seemed to have some sort of immunity to cancer. He thought perhaps we should grind them all up and turn them into some sort of vaccine for the rest of us. His idea wasn't based on science or logic or even serious, and he'd be the first to admit that we feel the loss of the good ones most strongly, while with the bad ones we tend to feel relief.

    I've had similar thoughts over the last 3 years while my Pop was dealing with ALS. Frankly some of those thoughts involved some extended family... something something giving nothing positive to the world something something.
