But seriously.......after spending the last hour drooling over Hampsten bikes at their (updated) website and on Instagram.....I'm seriously stoking the fire of desire for a new custom bike.

But where do I start? I know what I want in a bike, but I can very likely get that bike from any number of custom builders. (Forgive me, this should probably be a new thread. I searched but couldn't really find my answer in the archives.)
Spend some long nights looking through the galleries and see what tugs at your strings.....then do a little research to see what their process is, general pricing, etc....from there, reach out to some folks here or across the hall (Paceline Forum) or on IG who have one or more of their frames and see what they like or would change about the one they have....and then start contacting builders with a short list of questions to finish out the selection....put down your deposit, complete their info-gathering and design process, and the rest falls into line....

It gets easier each time too...... what, you thought you'd buy one custom and stop?

Smoked Out is awesome...but i imagine both your fit and weight will have changed by the time you've absorbed all the knowledge on offer there.

And the picture......Got everything, valve alignment, level cranks, Biggs/small, matching bar and saddle, no unwanted accoutrements (bells lights or bags). Tan wall tyres, to bottle cages......

Where do you start? Give Steve H. a call and get the ball rolling. He's a great guy to work with and his bikes ride even better than they look.

Actually I've been thinking hard about Steve Rex. I love the look of his fillet brazed frames.

He would certainly be a good choice. Since you like fillets you should check out Dave Kirk's work if you haven't already.

I had a Tournesol[ from Steve Hampsten. It was an incredible bike. But today, with the gravel "thing", bikes have changed and for the better.QUOTE=j44ke;974626]I've always thought this one was great. Absolute A+.
