    Default cross worlds, mens race

van aert looked completely in control from lap 1.
surprising? prob not as he has figured out how to peak for the worlds 3 times now.

was surprising how uncertain van der poel looked on the bike.
conditions were probably not his friend there but he definitely looked off his game.
he almost got unpodiumed in the last laps but managed to recover enough to stay on the bottom step.

has to be a blow for him.

Adri gave Mathieu's room to his sister after the race.

It's crazy how he has dominated the season but fell apart (relatively) at Worlds. Great race to watch though.

I bet. And maybe invited Michael Vanthourenhout over for dinner to meet her.

Great race. The speed of those guys in peanut butter mud is astonishing.

Which sponsor benefits more? Canyon on the podium 25 out of 28 races? Or Felt on the podium for the biggest 1 out of those 28?

Three consecutive rainbow jersey wins places WVA in a small club of iconic athletes. Also, the WC is the race that people remember the season by as time passes. MVDP is a phenom, that is for sure. Both riders are.

Mathieu weighs in on this topic (and jabs Wout a bit): "I do not have the World Championship jersey, but I do not think people will forget that I have already achieved 26 victories this season. I prefer to win 26 matches and the rainbow jersey, then only five matches and then the World Championship jersey."

I wonder how Wout's dissing of his Felt bikes factors into that calculation? And also the fact that Wout's team is ending their supply contract with Felt early and moving to Stevens bikes in March.

He almost achieved his preference; MVDP won his 26 matches but barely got the 3rd step on the podium yesterday.

i would say the Worlds plays to a much bigger audience.
it would be interesting to see actual numbers of people watching worldwide vs holland/belgium.

    mebbe comparable to..
Who won the tour de france last year?
    who won the vuelta?

enthusiasts can answer.. nobody else knows what the vuelta is.

I don't think we know who won the Vuelta yet.

I know my parents who are cyclists enthusiasts but not willing to spend all their time watching cycling races on TV are watching 3 cyclocross per year. One local race they attend, the french championship and the world championship. They only heard about MvDP's dominating season from commentators during Worlds but then you don't grasp it as well when the guy supposed to leave everyone in the dust ...err...mud is struggling to follow the leader.

So why give 10 K starting money to a world champ who is in his "recovery" for most of the year?

Ask the promoter - he's the one that needs to sell tickets, not us.

I'd say Canyon, because MvdP took a somewhat awkward bike and made it look cool while he was winning. He exorcised any awkwardness out of it.

Watch the cx races in the US next season.

Agreed I'm still shocked that thing got the green light for production.

I have this weird image of Mathieu and Adri arguing on a Dutch spin off of the “The Ball in the Family” TV show where Adri is known as Dutch Lavar Ball gets a bowl of stampot thrown in his face by Mathieu as Mathieu is yelling “the shoe deal! Gelato in the summer and my shoes in the winter” ...
