Challange Tubulars

A quick question: The company I work for apart from having a Pro MTB Team is also a distributour for various products here in Germany one of them being Challange tyres. One of our customers has moaned that the tubs are dangerous as they fit too easily on the rims, no doubt he´s used to using Conti tubs as these are finger breaking getting on. I´ve just checked myself and they do fit on easily but I feel thats no real issue when correctly glued, has anyone on here had problems with them rolling off or found them to loose. Cheers Daniel.

I am using a set of 27's. No issues here.

I had issues three years ago with their "open tubular" clinchers unseating when run at low-ish pressures, but never issues with their tubular tires.

No problems here. Got a few pairs of cross tubulars and one pair of road tubulars.

Tell him to use glue on the tubular. It's amazing how that works out.

The Challenge Paris-Roubaix is a nice tubular (if you like 'em fat). The fact that it mounts easily, and straight, is a bonus, not a negative.

Thanks for the answers fellas, its as we thought. I personally think there great and love using the fat Paris Roubaix ones. The cross tubs are flying out.

My biggest problem with the handmade tubulars like FMB, Challenge, etc. is that they can sometimes be "lumpy" after you mount them, and when you spin the wheel, there will be a bit of hop to the tire.

Yes.

(It also happens w/Continentals, when you get so fed up trying to heave that mutha-effer over the rim, that you leave it as is and walk away. But at least you won't stress out the base tape on the Challenge...)

Glad to hear it. Ready for my first ride on a Strada 24 on my rear Nemesis. Picked up a pair at a good price; wore the Veleflex Roubaix which preceded it down to the cords so hoping for equally good life (and performance) from the Strada.

I don't see a problem with the fit per se. But I won't buy them unless they are really inexpensive, and then for a spare. I've just haven't had good luck with them.

Craig and others with lumpy tyres. Tell me, are you struggling with the tyre at any point or stretching it with alot of force? I've eff'd up good tubulars by being impatient and not being gentle with stretching.

with these tubs you ain´t gotta stretch them so thats not gonna be part of the problem. the ones i´ve tested here roll sweetly.

I had one Challenge P-R that mounted no problem, centered nicely on the rim, but had a visible hop in it when you spun the wheel in the frame. Couldn't feel at at all while riding, though.

Handmade tubs like veloflex and FMB are typically not lumpy at all. The same cannot be said for lower end ones. That is my experience at least. Vittoria CX can be lumpy.
