Wow. Lefevre speaking of Bennett: "He's weak in the head, everything has to go his way and if challenged he'll crumble."

Thanks, boss, way to give props.

Sounds like Lefevre is just trying to get Cavendish into the Tour.

Good thing Cav has his bags packed:

I hope he has a spectacular race and teaches the young sprinters how it's done!

I love watching that guy (Cavendish) ride a bicycle hard. It's inspiring.

That's an unexpected twist but glad to see it go his way. I hope he does well.

I’d love to see him make it to Paris and it’d be a cherry if he can win a stage.

Honestly I think he will struggle with both. In his prime he struggled in the mountains and I suspect this struggle will be amplified. Likewise he may find it hard to win a stage. While he has the team to get him into the right position to win, winning in Turkey is a different proposition to winning in France in July. We'll see I guess.

All is correct. But he did just win in Belgium, which seems to have had a deeper field than Turkey. You’re probably right, but like many aged racers, he had grown on me. And his struggles of the past years weren’t just getting older. That virus is a real thing and he appears to have put it behind him. We’ll see what happens. Pulling for him and success, whatever that means.

He has surprised before with his progress in the mountains. Card-carrying member of the grupetto, but he's gotten there 50% of the time.

However, he's also gotten rolled like a sausage during the first week a couple of times and exited shortly thereafter too.

2016 was the year to retire on though I think. Nice work with Dimension Data.

But he ups the entertainment value I think. One more point of discussion for the presenters during the uneventful stretches.

i think he may know it's his last chomp (champ?) at the bit. I think we will see a good showing out of Cav this year. Looking forward to watching.

Yeah, I've seen a few things saying this is is his last Tour - not heard that from him but I definitely think he sees this as a bonus. So much of sprinting is in the head - and right now he seems to be in a good place so would be nice to end on a good one.
It's not the years, honey. It's the mileage.

I don't particularly like the guy, but I like his determination and I would lilove seeing him shut the mouth of people who pretend knowing better when and why a professionnal rider should retire or not. If he can do that with style and a stage win, nice. But as said previously, the depth of the field in Turkey and Belgium is not the same as in the TDF and I am skeptical he will have that opportunity in the first place unless Benett has some issues.

It would be nice to see him bow out with another stage, though I think the odds are against, if I'm honest. He's not everyone's cup of tea, but he generally tells it how it is, which is rare these days.

When one sees the human side of an athlete they often become much more sympathetic. This is a nice video of Mark Cavendish on a ride. Also, these Sigma Sports rides with Matt Stephens are sometimes great watches.

Lefevre on Bennett: "His knee isn't hurt. He's just afraid. And he's lying to us about everything. No, I'm not leaving him off the tour squad or slagging him because he's leaving the team at the end of the year. I would never do that."

In some perverse way I am starting to like Lefevre. He knows you know he's full of it and he simply doesn't care.

Bennett let Levevre down. Don,t understand Kelley or anybody that does not agree with that.
