Because Bennett is Kelly's boy. He got his first pro win with An Post. And he's Irish. I'd be surprised if Kelly didn't back him. Plus Kelly knows Lefevere. Lots of history there I am sure.

    One box ticked.

He even had to ease up to squeeze past the breakaway rider; and still won comparatively comfortably.

The overhead view was telling. Cav threaded the needle smoothly and then powered ahead. It was a display of smart sprinting, not just overwhelming power.

I noticed that. The head-on view was interesting, and they were going like crazy, but the overhead view of the sprinters (especially Cav) was spectacular.

    vintage Cav.

Makes it look easy, like an extra gear. It's been a long road, he earned that one.

As far as I’m concerned, the tour is a success at this point. Three of the stage wins were epic (including this one), with me shouting at the phone as I watched. If I were Cav, I think I’d retire after the tour. The guy could go out on the highest of high notes.

Great story I didn't know where else to put this:

A Welsh friend was driving across Italy and Spain with his Spanish girlfriend. He plays a game where he asks her to rate riders they pass basically asking her to judge how strong, elegant someone looks riding a bicycle. Once in Italy they were driving and Gethyn asked Mei, "How about these two?" Mei answered matter of factly, "That one looks really good ... but the other one not so much." As they drove by, Gethyn noticed the proper rider was Steven Cummings. He pulled over. He didn't have time to get out of the car so he rolled down the window and shouted, "Steve! Love your style!" At which point he recognized the other rider was Mark Cavendish.

    Well Done Mr. Cavendish

This a great story and somewhat over shadows the "great woman sign holder" dumbass hunt - I hope they find her and dole out a proper punishment!

    Happy Fourth and be safe,

van Moer went from race leader to 49th finisher in 100M and Cav won his 31st TDF stage in that same space…the sport certainly offers lots of twists and turns for us fans.

Sprinting is such a mental game...that the, "Thank you for believing in me" sentiment is probably the difference between him winning stages and his not even making it to the tour. I mean...so many things in life are this same mental game...where you project who you perceive/want yourself to be, and hope that others reflect that back on you. I work at a college with young adults that just matriculated, and so many of them said similar things to me. It always makes me wonder, the unrealized human potential that this planet has.

The tour could end tomorrow and I'd think it was worthwhile.

It was great watching the eventual stage winner being led out by the green jersey wearer. That can't have happened very often. It reminded me of stage 21 of the 2012 Tour de France, when Cavendish was led out by Bradley Wiggins in the yellow jersey.

Yeah, me too. As much as I can be happy for a guy winning a bicycle race, this one checks the boxes for me. I'm also struck by the fact that he gets up and picks up the chair to take it back inside. Life will humble you, that's for sure.

Oh this is unbelievable. I was a fan before, but this is just on another level. I love the evolution from cocky boy racer to humble, grateful teammate. What a career. I'm happy I got to watch it. We'll be talking about Cav for decades.

Certainly deserves to be in that jersey right now!

3 more sprint stages next week - 2 of those would equal Merckx…

As much as I admire Marks talents, I hope this doesn't happen.
