A bike for my daughter ....

I have had this bike in my garage for a number of years, and as much as I love the bike I never ride because it is just too small for me. I finally came to terms with the need to sell it so someone would ride it when my youngest daughter stepped up and said she wants it.

She is 16 and has been lusting after this for a long time, so time to make it hers.

Taking it from 6 speed to 10 speed. I needed to use reasonably shallow drop bars and my friend zMudshark provided the stem, appropriate and pretty short.

I love the drilled chainset and am going to try and keep that. I se no reason why the Record FD won't work, the RD may not work and if it doesn't I'll change it out, I have an alloy Centaur, an alloy Chorus and a Chorus with the Carbon plates to choose from. I think it would have to be an alloy Chorus if it comes to that.

I'm hoping she likes it, and rides it. I'm kind of tickled by her wanting this and thought i'd post some pics. Maybe I've raised her right.

Our oldest son goes with my wife and I on a couple of rides per week, and he's tough to keep up with at this point.

Nope, That's an SLX Replica frame. I toyed with buying it from TMB for years, but I have a few already, another would be greedy. On top of that, his daughter bought the bike for him, and it deserves to stay in the family.

2many's daughter is a very astute young lady, and I'm sure she will appreciate this bike and pass it to her children.

FWIW (not much), according to Strava, I had my best climb up Camelback Mtn in PHX the other day. I was on an SLX De Rosa.

As zMud says, the frame is a "Replica '73" built out of SLX in 1991 (according to DeRosa).

SLX, flat crown and gusseted bottom bracket and it does have the Diamanté shaped stays. It's a lovely bike and I hope she will have many years and miles on it.

Thank you for the comments. zMud, I would like nothing more than to see her ride away from me one of these days. She will just need to spend more time on the bike, she spends so much time dancing that weekends are largely spent sleeping - have to get her out though.

The SR derailleur has enough swing to go one end of the cassette to another, I think the limiting factor will be the 29 cog I have put on there. The c/set is a 52/42 so I'm putting a 13-29 on so that she doesn't hate me, and cycling.

jmoore - she knows the history of the bike all right. She just got back from France and Belgium, her friends all thought she was crazy when she went ga-ga over a bike shop in Brugges and had to get the Metro in Paris to get to a bike shop she had picked out to get a souvenir for dear old dad.

I'm going to put a set of SR quill pedals on for now just to let her get used to it, see if she is going to ride, etc. If all that works I'll take her shoe shopping (her favourite hobby), sadly she has her eye on a set of Diadora's at the shop - with hot pink accents - I have told her they will clash with the bike but she seems undeterred by that?

Definitely. Front derailleur, no problem. But I could not get a rear derailleur to work. Closest I got was with aluminum pulleys, SIS cables & housing, a Maillard 8 speed freewheel and an old Ergo 8 shifter. There was a lot of slop there though. Then I gave up and bought a Veloce group and everything was peachy.

Well, thought I would finish this thread off.

Finished putting the bike together for her. Some gel wrap under the Fizik tape, Chorus RD managed to keep the Record FD along with the drilled Chainset. Put the C-Record pedals on for now. When she gets used to the bike, riding and shifting gears, gets comfy - then we can look at some new pedals and shoes for her.

I offered to put a white Rolls on it for her, she likes the black Regal so it stays.

She's seems pretty happy. Hopefully she'll soon be kicking my ass with it.

BTW, the stem looks perfect on that bike. Tell her to think of Uncle Z when she rides it ;)
