Default Am I doing it wrong?

A question I should have asked while still behind the veil of anonymity.

I was watching the Netflix Movistar docu/reality/soap opera and on the team bus a cyclist was rubbing anti-friction cream into his chamois pad. I have always put it on me. (Mildly awkward when my wife witnessed this one day). Is there a right way to do this?

    Additional questions:

Do you use chamois cream for every ride? Or only for certain distances? Or none at all?

    I've never used chamois cream.

Yet for some reason I bought a tube once out of curiosity but always forgot about it when it was time to ride. It just isn't part of my ritual. I used it as regular hydration cream with my daughter when she was still using diapers though !

Every single ride. Though most of my rides are longish and I live in a swamp, so it helps. Also, both of the OP's options are wrong. I apply it to the outside of the shorts and saddle...slip and slide!

Actually, telling you my chamois cream ritual is TMI, but I'm happy to discuss my favorite brands.

    Inquiring Bottoms want to know!

I do know that in the Chamois Butt'r universe "Euro Style" means mentholated- A little too tingly for my taste.

Sportique Century Riding Cream and Above Category house blend are the two best for sensitive skin that I've ever tried. And I have very sensitive skin (thanks to a bunch of allergies) and neither of those causes any reactions and they both put up with regular 5, 6, 7 hour days of riding.

Anything over 2 hours and it will make a difference.
    Wherever you put it.

I do use chamois creme, but not like that. That was like half the jar.
I put the chamois creme on me- Not my chamois.

Every ride, on the shorts for me. Fan of Mad Alchemy Euro Pro. Prevents swamp ass, an infrequent but unpleasant complication of longer rides otherwise.

Every (one) is different - do what works for you.

Also: the pros are not us. we are not them.

I’ve been looking for such a cream ever since Assos changed their formula for the worse and removed it.

use a lot of fans. seriously, probably from in front and behind you and you will go a long way to reducing sweating.
    dont wear a jersey.
work on the angle of your bike, make sure set up is level.
I also think there is a reality that moving on a bike, we load the saddle differently than standing still, but maybe I am (extra) crazy.
Certainly on the road we get up out of the saddle far more often, so make sure to get up and out every 10 or so minutes maybe.
besides ventilation set up I think the fit equation (saddle tilt, drop + dynamics) may have you sitting on part of the saddle you shouldn't be.

I posted my favorite brands up above. My ritual will remain between me, my chamois cream, and my spatula.

Sportique products are generally very good. Too bad the entire range is not available here. I wanted to try their lip balm...

    Spatula???!!!

Life is more interesting if you put your embrocation on before you chamois cream.
