    Default Adrien Costa

Just saw this. Really too bad. Good thing it was below the knee so hope he recovers well.

I remember racing the 1/2 tour of the Gila in 2014. Costa was with Axion but too young for the pro race so he raced the 1/2. He demolished the first three stages and finished second on the Gila monster. All on junior gears at 16 years old. Massively talented rider. He's tough.

Specific details of the search and rescue, here.

Thatís pretty young for someone to lose a limb. But, given the fact that he was already soul searching and the head thatís on Adrienís shoulders, I think itís safe to say this is not an accident that will keep him down.

sadly - it was *above* the knee - which changes the picture quite a bit. (having amputee family members, I'd know)
My dad's doc said that "having the articulating joint is worth a few million dollars" - and that was in 1980s money.

He had moved here in town for a bit when he was on a tear and was just training/sleeping/training, but I think he's been living in CA for the last while.
I'm trying to sort out if the family is still around. If yes, I'll reach out and see what they need outside of the GoFundMe that I and anyone interested from the Salon can contribute.

This is unfortunate. My father-in-law lost his leg above the knee a few years ago and I bet he'd give anything for that articulating joint. Adrien Costa has youth on his side and prosthetics are pretty amazing these days, but it's a long road ahead. All the best of luck to him for a speedy recovery.
