Iíve got two days in Lake George, NY. Any tips on 30-50 mile road (or dirt/gravel)? Thanks!

My wife's family has a house right at about the "30" on the Brant, Loon, Schroon loop. I ride that loop many times each year for about the last 30 years. Lately - in the last 5 years or so there has been a dramatic uptick in cyclists. Not uncommon to see 100+ cyclists roll by on a weekend morning.

    A couple of variation suggestions:

Instead or riding the busy Rt 8 section after Palmer Bro's, take a right on Pease hill and then a left on Bean rd. Bean turns into a nice dirt road and is a great Rt 8 bypass. At the end of Bean take a right on water tub and then a left on E Schroon river rd. Stop at Crossroads for ice cream and/or beer or sammiches.

Either of the roads to the East of Loon - Rt 56 or 68 are a quieter hillier alternative to Rt 9 on the west side of the lake - though both Rt 8 and Rt 9 have good shoulders.

For a little more miles, throw in a loop out toward Ignera and then down to Pottersville. Nice quiet roads out that way too.

Also in Brant Lake right about at the 35 mile mark is a nice bar/restuarant/sandwitch shop catering to cyclists. Called "The Hub". A good place to park as well. There is a decent up/down mtb trail behind the shop.

Thsi loop could be done in either direction. Have fun! B

Thanks all! Great tips, and more than I could tackle. I wound up doing a nice 100km going north on Schroon River Road, taking Bolton landing road over to Bolton for provisions (i.e., gummi bears), and then north on 9N a ways with a slight detour on a unnamed gravel road that went several miles back into the state park. Beautiful riding and wish I had more time here!

Is this the area where DCT and Chase saw the old guy in the banana hammock?
