Today's observation on the 2021 racing season: litter zones are now shown on race profiles. I noticed some green icons on the Cyclingnews Tour of Romandie profile for today's stage, but they were too small for me to identify. A search for a larger image made their intent clear.

Meanwhile something like 4000 gas-powered vehicles are used in the Tour de France, not counting helicopters.

I just learned one of my riding buddy's middle name is Remco. Looking forward to seeing Evenepoel back in the saddle in a week's time. I don't think he'll ride for GC but I'll be pulling for him to make a strong comeback in the Giro.

Geraint Thomas should just stop riding in World Tour and race on Swift only. What a disgrace he is to pro cycling.

I just watched the stage. Brian Smith posited that his hands came off the bars when he stood up to match Woods. Or was it the famously useless Team Sky tires again?

Looked like right hand slipped off as he went to shift. With right hand no longer able to counteract left hand pushing hard, bars torqued. Definitely don't see that every day anywhere, let alone the pro peloton.

Seems a bit harsh.... After the race he said he had no feeling in his hands, so numb hands and wet levers (trying to shift), understandable to me, no one was as bummed as him.

Mike Woods won though. Thats great. Hes been trying but not quite there in earlier races. Good for him, good for ISUN.

Really admire Froomes determination to return to his performance of old.
But absolutely dont understand ISUN paying him 5 M euro for the next 5(?) years.
That is enough money to put a whole development team on the road.

Agreed, doesn't sounds to me like a good investment.

I agree, it was not as if his mistake harmed or endangered any other rider. The way Thomas rode Mike Woods down and led him through the final kilometres was wonderful to watch and was like the Thomas of 2018. Two riders were going head to head, uphill, at the limit of their powers in the very cold and wet and one of them fell. The one who stayed upright deserved to win the stage in my opinion but up until then it could have gone either way. Anyway Thomas recovered to win the overall title today at the Tour de Romandie by a comfortable margin.

Thomas won Romandie in the end and Ineos are bucking the trend with their older riders (Thomas and Porte) taking the top two positions on GC. Michael Woods is no spring chicken either.

Not the most important race, but I enjoyed following the Tour de Romandie and reading this write up, it’s really well done: https://www.cyclingnews.com/features...of-redemption/

GCN now has exclusive rights to the Giro d'Italia broadcast in US and Canada, so you will be able to watch live and on-demand with the GCN app, which streams/mirrors beautifully to several different types of devices (AppleTV, Chrome, some other.) And they have browser based stream as well.

I'm looking forward to it! I miss Italy. The food, the landscape, the people. Too long without a visit!

Great photo. Where was that taken?

Seeing we are 20 or so years into the new millennium it really is past time for the women to ride their own version of the Giro and the Tour in tandem with the men's race. Great exposure for sponsors, more racing for the fans and it is the right thing to do. They did it in France for, what, the first stage. What about the rest? Come on UCI...pull your finger out.

So is GCN becoming the de facto best way to view bicycle racing in the US? And maybe elsewhere?

I've been using the NBC Sports connection for several years now and have enjoyed it for the Tour, Vuelta and a smattering of other events but it appears they're going to be done with it as we know it in the future. I've heard they may be retaining rights to the Tour, but I'm not sure and it may be broadcast elsewhere with nearly 50% of the time devoted to commercials.

For those who have subscribed to the GCN app, has it been worth it? It seems I can just stream from my IOS device to my Apple TV and we're golden for watching on TV. Is this correct? And satisfying?

Any advice on best way to watch as many races as possible would be appreciated.

Yes. Their coverage is basically Eurosport coverage, who is now a partner/part owner/investor with GCN and is the best English language coverage going. Streaming works as you say. GCN is working on an AppleTV app, but there is some sort of hurdle they have yet to overcome so presume it is something to do with legal or Apple or whatever technicality. However, streaming or mirroring to your AppleTV from a laptop or an iPhone etc. is excellent. Not really sure how they get that quality out of streaming but it is great.

Here is the link to their browser based RaceTV service on GCN+.

    https://racepass.globalcyclingnetwork.com/home

Membership comes with their documentary & feature series as well.

    Here is the subscription page.

Here is the list for non-VPN viewing in the United States.

    https://help.globalcyclingnetwork.co...tes-of-America

If you have a VPN, you can pretty much watch whatever you want. GCN+ is not blocking VPN connections. VPNs are very good right now, possibly because everyone needs them to work remotely.

AFAIK NBC never bought the rights to the Giro so that's how GCN+ gained broadcast rights in the US. NBC's relationship with cycling has been mostly through Amaury Sport.
