Default 2021-22 Cyclocross Season - (Spoilers! Woohoo!)

The first race is in Europe on September 11. That will be an Ethias Cross race at Lokern, covered by GCN+. The 2nd Ethias Cross will be on September 18 at Beringen, and then the third at Bredene on September 25.

GCN+ is carrying the US-CX series this year. Hey! What? Yep. First race is Rochester C1 on September 25th and second race is Rochester C2 on September 26th. Then Charm City is next, C1 & C2 on October 2nd and 3rd respectively.

And then all the road racing stuff still going on in the meanwhile. Like Paris-Roubaix.

e-Richie on TV baby. No wonder he's sporting new specs.

The local dunderheads in ďeconomic developmentĒ in the mountains of Virginia seem to think cyclocross is a summer sport and continue to throw money at the opening UCI C2 weekend here in Roanoke(the course is literally a pile of trash), this year scheduled on the same day as world cup mtb finals 3 hours away and usacrits finals 2.5 hours away. I think maybe 6 locals race cx? There arenít enough hotel rooms to host a UCI race weekend if Virginia Tech is playing football, and not enough hotel rooms period to host CX nationals, so this Southern mountain city has doubled down on CX as something you do in the summertime, and then forget about as soon as itís fall. As a result, less locals participate in cyclocross every year.

Itís painful seeing good money spent on a sport that nobody around here (especially the quite large junior mtb population) participates in, outside of the same 6 dentists and doctors that were already playing cx before I moved down here.

Itís sad seeing a sport iíve loved for more than 20 years fail to launch in a town I moved to, but itís hard to break young peoples perception here that CX is ďgrass racing for roadiesĒÖ and that mtb racing for adults is 100 miles once a year in Stokesville.

Now that ďentry levelĒ cx bikes cost $4k, iím just gonna assume that CX will get smaller every year until it feels like 1997 again. Without affordable (like CHEAP) bikes its hard to see how CX will continue to be a viable sport in the USA.

Who is going to be at Rochester US Pro CX 1 & 2?

Just wondering who to look for on GCN+ Race Pass. They have both days planned for coverage. I am guessing that Jeremy Powers will be part of the presenter team? Links below should work on race day. Races will be carried live, so elite women are at 3:05PM and elite men are at 4:15PM.

Rochester Pro CX C1 Women - Sept 25

Rochester Pro CX C1 Men - Sept 25

Rochester Pro CX C2 Women - Sept 26

Rochester Pro CX C2 Men - Sept 26

I worked the pits at GoCross for two really rad american ladies who are signed to an irish-owned and belgium based team and are a few more hot dry races away from moving to a town they canít pronounce to live with people they donít know to compete in the very hardest version of a sport that not that many people care about where they live.
Iím such a sucker for that style of bike racing, these ladies, and a few dozen other American bike racers (and 5ish canadians, a fierce frenchwoman and a random dutchman)are now shambling up the alleghany ridges from
Roanoke to Rochester for the first C1 of the year. The traveling cx circus is back, now with less corporate sponsorship and media coverage, and iíd wager more motorhomes
    than ever.

CX people are still the best people in bike racing. I should whine less about the few days a year when lovely people show up across the street to play bikes, i know.
