I feel it's hard to argue against Allaphillipe for rider of the year.
Bernal was great, but would he have won the Tour on any other team?

Likewise, Allaphillipe has an incredible team. Hard to see him pulling out the same results if he rode for, say, Arkea-Samsic.

Accept Bernal's team brings something extra to the table, but the guy is 22.

With Sagan going to the Giro the Tour of California becomes less relevant as he was one of the biggest attractions IIRC.

As to the Giro, the mountains are great but has anyone else come to the conclusion that these races have almost become too mountainous? In this regard the Vuelta has almost become extreme.
