if one outcome of the Rohan Dennis 2019 Experience is a resurgence of skunk works equipment poorly disguised with sponsor names, I'm on board.

It's pretty well publicized that he was riding a blacked out BMC. At World's, riders are generally exempt from riding sponsor gear, though they're certainly pressured by those sponsors to ride sponsor correct gear.

There were not lots of crashes. There were a few crashes which got a disproportionate amount of publicity. Only one rider failed to finish out of both races. Chloe Dygert Owen dominated the elite women's race and Mikkel Bjerg won the under 23 men's race for the third time in a row showing that the course and conditions allowed top class riders to come out on top, which is what a world championship should do.

Second place finisher of the men's under 23 race, Ian Garrison (USA), who came in 27 seconds down on Bjerg after the 30.3km course from Ripon to Harrogate, said: “It was a different time trial than I’ve ever ridden before. I was trying not to let the conditions affect me too much.

“I think the conditions obviously made it more dangerous. But besides the few downhills, it’s hard to say. It’s as dangerous as you want to make it.”

Gold in the Junior Men’s TT one year, silver in the Professional ranks the next year. That’s got to be some sort of a record.

Rohan Dennis must be a perplexing dude. Wins TT. On bike not made by sponsor. Crickets from sponsor in response to win.

They're not likely to congratulate him after winning on a competing manufacturer's bike. We're usually led to believe that it's not about the bike but he obviously thinks it's a big part of the equation and today he had the legs to back that up. Congrats to him. He's clearly got huge talent.

Yes no doubt you are right. Which is why it might be frustrating to manage the guy. Clearly hugely talented, yet has a public beef with the equipment used by the team, which is particularly problematic seeing one of the sponsors is a bike manufacturer.

In time trials equipment is critical. If he thinks the warp is a turd it probably is. Also that stupid Rudy Project helmet is likely to be worse than useless on him.

No doubt that equipment matters in a time trial, and certainly matters to his psyche. BUT....is his team equipment REALLY a minute slower (his winning margin)? I doubt it in the wind tunnel. But again, I am sure it plays to his mental prep.

Most of the press on the Merida TT bike has featured Vicenzo Nibali, not Rohan Dennis, and I recall seeing one where the verbiage alongside the photos said something about Nibali being involved in the design for use during the grand tours. Obviously that could be total marketing BS, but perhaps Rohan Dennis didn't feel 100% invested in the product.

And by all accounts, the BMC frame is a very good frame, and BMC was one of the top TT teams on it and possibly did have a role in helping refine the design, given how long BMC was their equipment sponsor.

But the least aerodynamic thing on a bike sometimes is the rider's psyche.

Men's Junior Worlds - Magnus Sheffield is the real deal. I met him 4 years ago when he was 15. He has all the tools. Remember the name.

We all know it now. It was a great race and I was pleased for Sheffield that he won the sprint for bronze after all the work he put in throughout the day. It was a wonderful solo ride by Simmons which clearly owed its success a lot to the work put in by Sheffield earlier. I can't wait to see the elite men ride 7 laps of the finishing circuit on Sunday.

Magnus' background is alpine skiing which, this year, he finally left for cycling. He's been a champion at every age level since the natz were in Hartford 4 (?) years ago. A true young gentleman and from a good family. From what I've seen over the seasons, he can write his own ticket, and I wouldn't be surprised if he took what he liked from the experiences and then walked away - to a university campus for example. Regardless, he's a role model and hardly a second year junior racer.

That was terrible officiating. If an offense happens, penalize the rider on the spot, not after the race. Maybe the chase group would never have caught the lead four if he was dq'd earlier. Very stupid way to officiate a sport imo.

I wouldn't drink with any rider (from today's U23 event) who'd accept a one-place-better result at the expense of the true winner who was DQ-ed. This incident needs across the board solidarity lest all the riders face similar miscues down the road and have no peers for support.

Alaphillipe or vdP flatting early this Sunday will be interesting.
I feel the way they draft the car (with the leader behind a team mate, behind the car) is always done for this purpose.'
