I'd be way happier about Quickstep winning all of these races if their manager didn't make such a fool of himself/the team after the whole Keisse thing.

I'm picking Alaphillipe for Strade Bianche, knowing that Tiesj Benoot has the better name and seems to really want to win this one again.

The cycling podcast guys reminded me of it but I loved Floran Senechal's girlfriend's reaction after he won. Starts at the 1:38 mark in the video here:

Cycling video - Florian Senechal eases to maiden win - Le Samyn - Video Eurosport

As the guys on the cycling podcast said:

    1. I hope he wins Paris Roubaix just to see how she'd react.
    2. it was the most important race on Tuesday.
    Andy

RAI Reporter: "Did you have it in mind to go for the win today?"
Eddy Merckx: "Why do you ask me that? Why do you think I'm here? To watch the others win?"

That was his wife. Here's a quote from Senechal in The Telegraph.

"Le Samyn is such a beautiful race and I’m extremely happy I came out on top, especially as today is the birthday of my wife, Margot. She told me before the start that she wants me to win and I am glad I could make her such a gift and celebrate my first pro win together with her at the finish. It’s an extraordinary day that I will never forget."
So there was a bit of love magic involved. And understandable joy.

Women’s race is on. Eurosport has two presenters I do not recognize, one of whom was introduced as a world famous cycling reporter and who has no idea who any of the women racers are, except for Marianne Vos so he identifies all riders as Marianne Vos. By my count, there are evidently 10 Marianne Vos’ in this race.

I can’t think of two less similar riders in terms of temperament than the two at the front right now.

Nice last bit there. And I got it right, though admittedly that wasn’t such a risky pick.

Wout did a big effort to close that. Impressive. It helped that Fuglsang and Alaphilippe messed around a bit.

You know Wout will be circling this race on his calendar for years to come.

Should have put some money on that.

Van Vleuten has been putting in 10 200 K days with the men from Michelton Scott I read. It showed today.
Van Aert looking good for the rest of spring. Nowhere to hide in this race.

One of them was Ned Boulting, I believe. Can't figure out who the other one was.

Should Fuglsang have gone later? Seemed like he was feeling a bit boxed in by Alaphillipe, but even though it opened up a bit on the right of Wout, seems like he would have been better jumping a bit closer to the top. That seems like such a tough climb to gauge. Just want to be a foot or two in front of your nearest adversary and on the inside of the corner at the top.

Alaphillipe is a nightmare for whoever is with him in the last km's. He works a bit, soft pedals a bit, glides back, moves up, scratches, stretches. Like racing against a ferret. That whole way in he was setting up Fuglsang for the finish. Or rather perhaps I should say unsettling Fuglsang.

I know that ramp. It’s not something I can deal with after a hard day on the white roads, even in dry condition. It looks and feels like a vertical wall worthy of Trump’s praise. It’s astonishing how those two went full gas, never mind the little manoeuvres.

I would have been like Van Aert on my best day: “Whatever, lads. Carry on without me.” LOL!
