Almost no one can do the Giro/Tour double.
Definitely not when they are hauling *** like these days is fortunately the case.

I wonder if Trek Segafredo are wondering about the wisdom of spending large $ to get him on the team for next year, though Segafredo and their cash seem to be driving the move. To me it smacks of the move they made for Contador in the last years of his career. Sign him for the publicity he'll bring based on his past results rather than what he might win when in the Trek jersey.

If you were a DS, would you bother with Rohan Dennis? He's left two teams in mid-year now, and appears to be quite the prima donna, even though he's never a mass-start race of significance. World TT champion? Does anyone really care about that title? Cancellara gave the title significance -- no the other way around -- because he won classics. Indurain, Ulrich, Olano, Zulle and Dumoulin won stage races. Jalabert won a lot of everything. Tony Martin at least tried to become a legit GC contender. Dennis is Sergei Honchar without the cool 90s Eastern Bloc transplant epo-and-chianti Euro-trash vibe. And he's a pain in the ass, apparently.

Where does he land, other than the Adelaide International Airport?

I would think his wage rate would have to undergo a massive cut for any team to take another chance on him. There's a lot of talented bike riders out there who can do more than simply time trial and talk about how they are trying (and have been trying for three or four seasons) to transition into a GC rider without any results to demonstrate any progress toward that goal. Running a successful WT team is hard enough without throwing hard to manage riders into the mix.

The article on him in Cyclingnews dot com doesn’t paint a very flattering picture, that’s for sure.

I wouldn't touch him with a ten foot bike. I'm no doctor, but I've seen enough untreated mental health problems in my life to know I wouldn't want him on any team I was responsible for. He needs professional help and I sincerely hope he gets it.

The thing is we only have second, third or even 4th hand accounts on his behaviors. Also that cryptic twitter message from Bahrain-Merida in the middle of a stage was at best awkward.

Getting back to those riders who are still in the Tour de France, I really hope the podium places are decided by performance in the climbs and not by mechanical incidents or, worse still, a crash. This is building to be one of the most exciting races ever.

I am not sure why, but I am pulling for Pinot. Perhaps because I remember his awkward white-knuckle descending in the year of Quintana. When was that? Before Pinot got his head fixed. Even back then, he was obviously a fighter - fighting himself fighting the bike fighting the mountain - and a bit too introspective for a typical bike racer. When he lost time this year you could tell he was disappointed in himself and when he talked about revenge later when he took the stage, I felt like it was as much taken against his own inner adversary as any other rider, the race or the terrain. Certainly if the French are to break their long drought, they are well placed to do so. I think the successive Alpine stages will cause Alaphilippe to come unstuck. Pinot's issue is that one bad day. If he can avoid this and he keeps chipping 30 seconds or so off the people in front, then he's a red hot chance. Like Alaphillippe, he has taken the race on and there is a lot to admire about that.

Dennis will probably stay where he is.

If being a pain in the arse was a disqualifier, then a lot of people would be out of jobs.

Admittedly pulling out mid-stage and before a time trial was pretty odd, but I think both parties have a lot invested to not make it work.

It is restday, and you are DS of QS.
Looking for a strategy for the next days.
Do we even defend, or just follow the wheels?
    If Bernal attacks early,
Let the others do the work?
    If Pinot attacks,
Let the others do the work?
    Look for friends in Jumbo?

How the six main contenders for Tour de France shape up for final stages | Jeremy Whittle | Sport | The Guardian

The predicition is this article is that Bernal wins. I think he needs to attack earlier to try and force a difference. Chasing Pinot in the final couple kilometers of the stage might be a bit too much.

The are calling for very warm weather this week. Not good for Pinot who does not like that.

Indeed it might be the racer dealing best with the heat.
    And that could be bernal.
