Zeus is a REAL dog. One immediately understands why dogs bred for purpose have traits like paddles for feet and a loose fat layer covered with bouyant fur coats. Labs and Retrievers are so bouyant their bloodyh tails stick out of the water and with one shake all the water is gone!!! Poodles on the other hand are used for water fowl hunter but darn if their coats aren't a bother to manage. Disturbed is a hunting dog pro and likely has a comment?

    Zeus and Tug can hang.

I call him our "part-time" dog. He's with us about half-time while his parents split time between the left and right coasts.

He's now seven years, and I've known him since he was ten weeks old. We're very close.

Our pup is between 1.5 and 2 years old these days, and had a breakthrough in August- finally realizing that her Lab genes dictate that her Chow genes get out of the way and let her play in the water. No swimming, but will chase a ball into the surf, up to her shoulders.

We rescued Olive (left) from the pound. 3 years later we bailed Owen out of the high desert.
He was infested with fleas, ticks, and worms and weighed about 30 pounds. Afraid of
everything he ate his meals like he was stealing something. Then we took him to a sheep herding class...

Profkrispy- Awesome. You guys go to heaven twice. Really nice to see dogs with jobs. When I was working in rural Wy. the local horse vet had a border collie who was in dispensible. Pretty amazing critters.

Speaking of dogs with jobs, here's our dog ROO herding our gang of desert tortoises!
She gets very concerned if they don't stay "grouped" drives them nuts.

This is Zigaboo almost 9 years ago as a puppy.

And this is what he looks like now... 90 pounds and always crowding me.

And finally we come to the day I thought he was going to die and rushed him to the vet because they suspected his stomach had flipped. Turns out it was just a $374 case of the sh!ts.

Sucks when they pull that stunt.

OMG!!! Don't know how I missed this thread for all these years!

    Here's our pal Doc:

He isn't especially smart, but he's intuitive in a psychological way. Makes friends out of folks who don't like dogs. Figures out if anyone is unhappy and works to cheer them up. And is always ready to play, or take a nap. Having turned 6 this year, he's calming down so that I can have him out in the shop with the doors open (without wandering off).

Our new irish setter, Griffin. At 10 months, he's already jogging with mom- I'm hoping to train him to run with me while I mountain bike, but first need to learn how to mountain bike!
