    Bat, GSP male:

MIA is Ginger the adopted beagle and my other horse Pal.

And yes, all the dogs are in the house along with 2-3 other client dogs in the summer. We usually have 10 dogs in our massive 1400sq ft. home. The horses don't come in except for Christmas morning.

    Default Alex:

You guys are blessed with some of the most beautiful animals I have seen in a long time. Working dogs are happy dogs. Your photos make that clear. So why do you leave the horses outside the house all the time? Horses are people too.

Thanks Tom. The horses drink all the beer so they're sequestered in the barn.

The huge disadvantage in owning a lot of dogs is losing a lot of dogs. Absent from the pics are black Labs we've lost in the past few years: Tuff, Alta, Roper and Trick. Also 2 other beagle rescues we had. All lost to declining health in their old age....

Additionally its been a bad years for many clients dogs I've trained. 4 of them have passed including one just returned to home after 7 months of training with me. The down side of being a professional trainer...

Our new dog a few months ago. She replaced another rescue dog we had that died in the worst way I have ever lost an animal. One minute she was outside playing in the back yard, the next she limped in and collapsed on the floor of the kitchen, with her tongue completely out. I took one look and we rushed her to the vet.
The vet thought it might have been poisoning, and kept her. She died in the night. The vet did an autopsy because she was so upset and puzzled as to what happened. What she discovered is that our dog's liver had completely and instantaneously ruptured. The theory is that she had a genetic abnormality which progressively weakened her liver, then just all of a sudden, pow. Apparently this can happen to people too.

I'm not really a dog person, but it seems like most of you are and if you are there is a book you need. "You Are a Dog" by Terry Bain is just hilarious good reading and even the most anti-dog person will find themselves laughing at many passages.

    Default My two little monsters.

The first is Charger, our one-year-old standard schnauzer. What a character...as schnauzers tend to be. He joined our family last year after we had to say goodbye to our mini schnauzer Natrone (lost him after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer). Charger is the first standard we've shared our home with. What a hoot. He's a natural comedian.

The second is our nearly nine-year-old yellow lab Scarlett. She's looking worried in this photo (while Charger sleeps) because the movers are packing up our house. The photo was taken in July, right before we left Carlsbad, CA and moved to the snowy tundra wastelands of the Bay Area.

My girls, a couple of Airedales. Mad as cut snakes, but a beautiful nature with our two year old daughter.

We rescued Owen, the dog on the right, at the end of January. He's settling in quite nicely. Was instant friends with Olive the day they met.

Was 4. Now 3. All inbred and from the same flock. They are all elderly now. Had um for 6ish years, which in bird years is a lot.

Our girl Pepper from the shelter almost 9 years ago. She's said to be a black lab/Springer/Aussie "blend":
