    Default Speaking of boxers...

Tarka, our brindle boxer, just turned 9 yesterday!

Unfortunately, she has cancer (had emergency surgery Easter Sunday to have her spleen removed, due to a ruptured tumor). The vet said to expect her to live another 6-12 months. So far, so good.

She's a good girl and a great companion and I will surely miss her when she goes. :(

Sorry for the crappy mobile phone pic.

messyparrot isn't alone in their love of avians. This is Murphy a rare greater Jardine parrot and will be turning 17 on xmas day. We've had him for about 10 years. Many parrots are burrowing and make nests on the ground as you see in the final picture. Most of our boxes get VERY broken down before going into the recycling bin.

Hey dog people, any of you who have not read “The Art of Racing in the Rain”, put it on your winter reading list. The racing bit refers to auto racing, not bikes, but the entire story is told from the POV of a dog. I’m not big on fiction, but this was one of the best I’ve read in years, and I guarantee when you are done you will appreciate your pets more than ever.

Outstanding dog book...life as seen through a dog's eyes. Another good read is Merle's Door

An action shot of Sophie follows. Not sure whether her eyes are saying "I'm kinda worried he's not going to let me eat it" or "can't a bitch shit in peace."

Normally we didn't keep 'em caged. They had free run of the basement. We had four rabbits in Switzerland and this one was the smallest one and one mean SOB. Don't be fooled by his diminutive size. He certainly had no idea that he was only about 2 lbs. Vicious as a cornered, rabid pit bull. And I'm not really exaggerating.

No digital pics of the other ones, which were not nearly as mean.

This is our cat "Kitty" who was our neighbor's until she adopted us. When they moved away a number of years ago, Kitty stayed with us. Although, I'm highly allergic to cats, I loved this one. Saddly, she passed away at Thanksgiving two years ago.

I had a killer duck once which was white. It would charge large dogs which would invariably take a runner. I guess my example as a parent must have been lacking ;)

Thanks. Birds are strange little dinosaurs with the emotional level of a two year old human and the brains of a three year old. No other pet can lie and hide and destroy and then make it all better by saying "I love you" in your native tongue.

Sure dogs can give you those sad eyes and cats can rub your legs, but parrots really speak your language. And the flock call when you leave the house is something special. It would be nice if he actually liked me, but that's ok he pukes for my wife regularly.

My girlfriend has a cat that is half Maine Coon. He is huge (not fat, massive bone structure), weighs about 15 pounds, but has never met a box he could not fit into. Loves them.
