    Default Surprise

What is actually surprising about this paint job? Looks like the first year Speedvagen with a panel. Maybe I am missing something. Looks great though.

w/one exception (to my knowledge at least, others can correct me), "surprise me" has primarily been the standard SV paint scheme, albeit in a surprise pallette.

that's one of the things that makes this round's "surprise me" that much cooler. it's not just the standard scheme...

    I dig it.

    well done Sacha!

Funny thing having so much anticipation built up in the vsalon for a paint scheme.

Anyhoo, the surprise me scheme isn't necessarily meant to be shocking, but more of a "do whatever you want for me" type of surprise. Sometimes it is wild (hot pink), and sometimes more subdued.

I was wondering if anyone would be like "surprise!? it looks like every effing Vanilla ever made"

It's true that this SM scheme has a lot of Vanilla in it (panels and our signature sky blue) and is pretty traditional for me in that way, but it breaks the classic panel mold with repeating text to create half of the panel color rather than continuing with the solid block of white as a panel normally would. The scheme also has a lot of asym. going on which is very SV. So for me, it brings some very classic flavor together with some modern graphic elements for an overall scheme that has never (as far as I know) been done before.

Well, stoked that you all are enjoying your new bikes. I'm off for a lunch ride on mine (it's a SM too).

    Cheers,

    Sacha

Sacha, I did not notice the "half panel" until the second picture. That makes it pretty cool. I actually really like that paint scheme but for some reason I was on the assumption that the surprise me would be something different.

    its (*the paint) rad.
in a parallel universe where i actually have all the money i want.... i would buy a new one of these every two years in a different color until i drowned in them... because there is no bike made that is more fun to ride (hard).
for reals. hang me from one nekked, in a wig, with brake cables around my neck and wang for all to see. its soo good its worth having an erotic relationship with in a thai hotel.
in fact, i saw the carradine death pics and there's a vagen on the bed smoking a cigarette.

the bike is my reference point for all other bikes in any material (talking about the way it rides). not having one is a kind of torture. waterboarding is nothing compared to a life without a speedvagen. for reals.

and i'm not even on the team. i pay retail, can't work a deal to get one, and will go madoff to keep em coming if i have to.

you all better post pictures of them being ridden.

I love it, but I'm partial to the Vanilla blue.
Will the 09 cross vagens have a SM option? I assume it will be something different.

I was working years ago at PPG's R&D Center and I recall a gentleman from BMW at the time, saying that $40 worth of paint can make the difference in selling a car for $25,000 or $125,000.....in the consumer's eyes.

    Nice work again, Vanilla team.

How are the graphics on these bikes done?
Some kind of decals applied before the clearcoat? I assume they can't be all painted on...?

They are paint. The work on the smaller lettering is quite amazing--the small red and green stripes must have taken a *long* time. My assumption is that it is a long and painstaking masking process.
