This is next up for me...
So, I finally got around to that this week:
Just the right balance of gold now I think...
Turns out the Lightning cranks creaked, and more than the creaks they have been known for. It was a process of elimination to arrive at that conclusion, but it was the last thing left after a long line of tests. They've been returned for a refund thanks to awesome service from Jason at Fairwheel. I don't think I can be bothered with fancy cranks anymore - especially as the DA cranks suit it really nicely.
The wheels are el cheapo 'Prime' 50mm tubs from Wiggle to tide me over. They were on offer at a silly price and are a respectable weight so I took the gamble. They're plenty good enough and they save me from the idiots trying to sell me 5 to 10 year-old secondhand wheels at ridiculous prices; but I will get something else in the long run.
Not a fan of the Vittoria tyres, though. I missed out on the last set of Veloflex Ravens at my LBS; and that probably leaves me with overseas imports for decent tubs from now on. In fact based on current Australian tubular tyre stock levels, it could be time to get myself stocked up...
Well that's a shame. We never did get that Sydney ride in. A gold chain? You can not be serious.
That's also a shame. Mine have been silent, but I agree overall. Cranks on the Lyrebird are Praxxis because I also can't be bothered. Seems to be a general apathy towards exotic stuff though!

We absolutely should do that - it had completely slipped off my radar, so sorry!
Well, those turned out to be a bad idea. The brake surface on both wheels can’t decide whether it should be glassy smooth or rough as a cheese grater, so braking involves a fair bit of pulsing to say the least! Back to talking people down on the expectations of the value of their secondhand wheels it is then...
Very nice.
I like it! The chain and brakes are nice, not too much gold but enough.
The Shimano is a whole other matter though! ;)
