Here's my LHT. It used to be that industrial blue color but after enough scrapes, wipeouts, many thousands of miles, etc, I had somebody powder coat it here locally. I beat on this thing. Built w a mix of Shimano SRAM and no-name parts. That fork is an IRD steel job I got after a stick in the spokes of the wheel pictured here bent the original fork up under the frame. Hand built XT hub w/ Mavic rim is still getting the job done.

Try right clicking the image in Flickr and then clicking "Copy Image Address" from the submenu that pops up.

I bought a steamroller for my girlfriend to relearn how to ride a bike. Hadn't been on one since she was 9 or so, and she rode it single speed until she felt comfortable. She loved that thing. Still trying to hold onto it - sometimes those first bikes are so nostalgic.

Surly bikes are a great bang for your buck. This Cross Check SS rides very smooth & comfortable. Of course, i pimped it out a bit but it's heart & soul are Surly

I'm guessing it's a Cross Check. I could be wrong, but it is a beauty. I love singles. Nice.

My crosscheck lost a fight with a Volkswagen, so I adopted a new surly.

My Krampus. Having as much fun as I do on this bike should be illegal.

Maybe some people on here could help me out. I want to build up my girlfriend a road bike, with hopes of someday getting her to tour with me. But, I'm not the type thats going to force her to buy all kinds of high end bits to fit into my hobby. There are good chances she wont love road riding. We live in boston, it takes a bit to really get to decent roads and she really doesnt love riding in traffic. She handles bikes fine for the most part though, her commuter and mountain bike.

Now, id like to give her the best chance possible to like it, forcing her onto my extra 60cm with a slammed seat and a short stem, I dont think will do it. So comfort is kind of key, she has never ridden a drop bar bike. I am trying to pick up a used cross check or pacer for her. I like the idea of the cross check because of its flexibility, the pacer would be lighter and shorter WB, and maybe a bit better on roads. She weighs 135, and is 5'8". I think a 54 will be good for her, maybe a 52 for a shorter TT. Which bike do you guys think makes more sense here? the pacer is hard to find, crosschecks are all over the place. I keep hoping to stumble upon a decent older frame (non surly) for little money, but i'm getting antsy, thoughts?

At 5'8", the 52 Cross Check might be a better fit. Also check the Salsa Vaya. I had a Cross Check for a while (5'10", size 54), put about 1700 miles on it -- nice bike, though every time I rode it I was reminded why I hate cantilever brakes. Vaya uses discs...

Thanks, I was thinking mini-v's if I did the X-check. I like the vaya, but dont have any disc wheels sitting around though, so that makes it tougher. I am surprised how much I like my canti's, granted they have salmon pads on them, but I dont mind them.
